Wired Beans - Germantown, this is your chance

My impatience paid off recently. Instead of waiting for the Chestnut Hill East train the other day, I took the Chestnut Hill West and walked home. I passed by the new Wired Beans that is opening in the much maligned Chelten Plaza. It looks great inside. I have gone to their location in Mt. Airy a lot and it's really a great business.

Citizens of Germantown, this is our chance. Wired Beans must be a smashing success if we want further investment in our neighborhoods and a better quality of commercial services that are provided to us. If Wired Beans is a failure, we certainly can't expect investment. If it is a success, I think people might finally have some confidence that we are worthy of their investment.

could give a scat about wired beans and its partisan owners. i won't spend cent 1 here or anywhere else at this plaza. the city gov was free to shove this mess on the residents without any input, and i'm free not to spend any of my money here.

The biggest problem in Germantown has been the people and their leaders. Germantown has gotten what it deserves.

We happily patronize the new stores. I'm happy to have services close to home.

Wired beans is a nice spot immediately adjacent to the train in a nicely renovated 60+ year old building that holds the sidewalk line. It would be staggeringly moronic, but par for the course, for the PTB in Gtown to kill it.

i'll be honest, i went to Wired Beans a few times when they first opened and thought their coffee stunk. hopefully it has improved. I will check them out again this weekend.

I'd have to assume he means people being negative and overly critical.

Although I am a proud Germantowner, it never ceases to amaze me how critical and pretentious some of my neighbors can be. People better not dare boycott Wired Beans simply because it is in Chelten Plaza. Chelten Plaza is built and open. There is nothing that can be done about it now. When a local business like Wired Beans opens up shop there, we need to support it.

Not to mention its the more upscale kind of place that people have been clamoring for. Is it perfect? No. But they serve La Colombe coffee and LeBus baked goods, which is more than other coffee shops in neigorhoods with better socioeconmics can say.

I really think that better Post Brothers and Wired Beans the ball might finally start rolling fast enough to spur the renaissance in Germantown that many have looked for. The last thing we need is for our green shoots to be killed over ridiculous idealism.

Funny, I don't even know the <b>existence</b> of Wired Beans.... I do go to the Save-a-lot at the other end of the plaza. They have really cleaned up their act since their move from Wayne Avenue! Clean, no bums hanging around (at least yet), open 24/7, inexpensive specials - only place where you can buy a half gallon of 4 % milk for $ 1.95......

Likewise, Coca Cola is sold in Ruth's Chris steakhouse and McDonald's. Does that make these two establishments equivalent?

Not really sure what you are getting at here. The Chelten Plaza debacle happened before Cindy Bass got into office. I'm also pretty sure that Wired Beans started before Cindy Bass got into office as well.

As to why Wired Beans moved, I'm not sure what kind of grants they got (if any), but it seems to me that it would make sense to move from a sleepy stretch of Germantown Ave in Mt. Airy to a virtually untapped market in Germantown next to a decently used train station and newly renovated high-end apartments.

Wired Beans doing well would be a fantastic thing for Germantown.

I had no idea anything else was there besides that wretched Save-A-Lot. We'll check it out for certain. My bf drives past it everyday and goes to...gasp!...A+ to get coffee since it's the only thing really on the way into CC everyday.

I didn't see any equivalence implied.

You did offer LeBus as one of the selling points for this establishment. Is Coca Cola the main draw for people who dine at Ruth's Chris?

I took some clients there today in a 15 minute gap between showings that we had. Nice guys. Good coffee. They desperately need a baker though to coordinate with. The offerings there look like they're from BJ's or Costco Bakery. Will be back for certain. It was hard to find...I didn't realize that it fronted on Chelten.

Also the Germantown United CDC was on the street with the approved streetscape plan where Germantown will be getting state monies to improve facades, lighting, install benches, trashcans, hanging flower baskets. Looks awesome!!

I've been to the old wired beans a few times, and a couple of times to the new one by the train station. The owner, Robert, is a great guy and is trying hard to bring quality service to the area. As far as I know he was supposed to keep both shops opened, but it didn't work it out that way.
