hardwood flooring/stair tread repair

I'm looking for recommendations for flooring companies or contractors that are good with stairs. We have a tread that is split and needs to be replaced. If the price is right, we may replace all of the hardwood on our stairwell. Thanks!

It's a pretty easy DIY project, actually, as long as the rest of the structure is sound. Just measure an existing tread and go to a lumber supply place and buy a new tread cut to match. (I used Liberty on South 7th St just below Washington. They were very helpful.)

You'll want to know depth of the tread, width and the edge finish (usually rounded, like a piece of half-round trim, but the same piece as the rest of the tread.) There are two basic tread depths, and you can get it cut to fit if you don't match the standard depth.

We've done it, and it's not hard at all if you have basic tool skills.

Rittenhouse Lumber on Bethlehem Pike in Flourtown would probably do this if you wanted to go that route.
