New CDC in the works for Germantown

Germantown is no longer willing to have developers come into the community and strip mine its resources.

A new CDC is in the works to push back against decades of crooked insider deals and the poverty culture that kept Germantown weak in order to ensure that federal, state and city dollars flowed with no measurable outcomes.

This is undoubtedly an uphill battle. But at least the iron grip of Germantown Settlement has been broken and the most inept council rep in recent memory is leaving office.

Two things:

- How do we make sure this is not going to be Germantown Settlement II?
- How do we make sure this new CDC has the right vision (e.g. not calling a new Wendy's as "economic development")?

Those are the two most important questions if this group is going to have any kind of real purpose. There need to be checks put on it too so it isn't hijacked by the nefarious.

The Germantwon United CDC is drawing on the energy and network of groups and individuals that came together over months and months to oppose the Chelten Plaza. The group is pretty much driven by a desire to develop a strong retail corridor(s) Chelten and Germantown. But research is still going on and there will be public meetings to hear from the community and to share the objectives that are developed.
