    Default Tree Removal Service

Can anyone recommend a good tree removal service in/near Chestnut Hill? We have a huge tree in our yard that has died and big pieces are starting to break off so we have to have it taken down. Thanks.

Kingkiner Tree Service, 215-508-7553. Stillman Tree Service also worth a call, 215-886-4142.

Another vote for Kingkiner as competent & the least pricey of the 3 quotes we got.

Shechtman Tree Service gave me the lowest quote of three that I solicited for pruning an overgrown cherry tree in Chestnut Hill, but I went with Wissahickon Tree & Landscape because I also wanted some landscaping done. Boy I wish I could go back and do that again - I definitely would use Rob Sawyer and Shechtman.

I do NOT recommend Kingkiner. While they were not the most expensive of all the services I brought out, they did not do a very good job of trimming my dead branches. I had three large trees I wanted them to look at specifically to remove dead/dying trunks. For two of them, they just topped off the tree without taking care of a number of side trunks that were clearly dead. And for one tree, they swore up and down that the tree was alive and would be fine, when in fact it's pretty much dying a painful death, made worse by this winter. I don't trust them at all to evaluate trees properly.

we had a great experience so far with Shechtman, they came out to evaluate one of our trees, diagnosed the problem and gave us a timeline of how much longer it would likely last. no cost. when it comes time to take it down, we'll likely call them back.

on a side note--if your tree is anywhere near PECO lines, you can call them to come out and trim or take down your tree. and it's FREE! we called about the same tree because it was leaning on some lines and we wanted to be safe before the winter. they came out and trimmed it back very carefully, left the wood where we requested it (fireplace). and i think if we had picked up some big macs they would have finished the job, but we weren't ready to see the whole tree go just yet.

Another vote for Kingkiner. We had them remove some overhanging tree branches in our back yard and they did much more than I expected, and didn't leave a trace of any branches. They also took away some large branches that had fallen on our property.

Plus the trees they trimmed are still alive and well.
