    Default Getting an Iron fixed

I was given a $50.00 Black & Decker iron as a gift. It's about 5 months old and today it stopped working. I have no desire to buy another iron for 50 bucks and dig this one. So, where in the EF/Wiss/Manayunk area can I go to get it fixed?

PS...I know this post is pretty lame, but couldn't find anyone local in the phone book who fixes irons...so here i am.

It may still be under warranty.

    Contact Black and Decker.
They should replace the iron for you. An iron should last for more than 5 months (unless you're an industrial ironer!). It may have been defective.

Just take your cloths into the bathroom with you when you show, and make the shower extra hot.

It would probably cost less to buy a new one than to get your old one fixed -- if it's not under warranty, that is.

Go to Costco, look on Amazon, or Boscovs for a deal. Probably would cost more to repair than to replace...

    Yeah, that's what I figured.

But, isn't there a psuedo-mom & pop place around here that fixes items like this. A place sort of like the vac and sew shop on Ridge in Roxborough

My Kitchenaid mixer stopped working and I didn't have the box or receipt. I called them and they replaced it. It turned out that particular model had a defect. Your iron may be defective. Can't hurt to call Black and Decker.

Or you could just write a letter saying how disappointed you are with their product. I did that with my Brita filter that kept clogging up, and they sent me a new one.

Yes, it doesn't hurt to contact the company and tell them what happened. They may have a regional service center where you can take the iron to be checked out and/or fixed. Also, there is probably a manufacturer date or serial number on the iron. From that they can gauge that you probably haven't the iron that long. Call Black and Decker. Go to their webpage, there is a lot of information there.

I bought an iron for $6 about 8 years ago and its still going strong... WTF does does a $50 iron do???? What could be added to an iron to make it worthy of a $50 price tag?

It irons my shirts, cooks me dinner and brings me beers during football games.

Should have put a ring on its finger while you had the chance.

Trust me, it's not worth it. Thankfully it was a gift.

I had to dig out my old $10 iron out of the closet before work this morning and it worked in a pinch.

I think that I am just going to try and fix it myself. Can't be that hard, right??

    Reminds me of a joke:

Why does the bride wear white on her wedding day??

So the dishwasher matches the microvave.

I was pricing irons about a month ago and $50 is not really that much these days. How did you get an iron for $6, even 8 years ago? It must have been secondhand or reduced for some reason.
