Default What Happened to Frak's Steaks??

Does anybody know what happened to Fraks's steaks located on Cresson St and Gay St in Manayunk? I drove by there a bunch of times and they are never open and tried calling with no answer. That was my go to spot for delivery. Good prices and a great Tuna Wasabi Hoagie.

They closed down a few weeks ago. Word on the street is the owner got all messed up on coke. The health department should have closed that place down months ago.

Wow, thanks for the info. I was a fan!! Hopefully something good replaces it. Larry's Steaks would be nice...like the one by St.Joe's.

I know the owner. He wasn't "all messed up on coke". He sold it.

That's a shame. Awesome steaks, I would order from their frequently.

Frak's ran a pretty tight ship. You can do much worse in Man/Rox. The sandwiches were definitely above average, too.

I went in there a few times and the "steak" they prepared for me each time was already-cooked meat thrown back onto the grill to reheat and melt cheese on. Pretty poor portion to boot. Good riddance.

I had the same experience when I bought a cheesesteak there. One of the worst steaks I've had in a long time.

I tried Frak's a few times, not very impressive for a place specializing in cheesesteaks. That said, if you're looking for a good steak, Sorrentino's (right across the street) will thoroughly surprise you.

I love Sorrentino's steaks and also their hoagies; reminds me of a steak shop I went to as a kid in the neighborhood where I grew up.

Sorrentino's best kept secret is their breakfast sandwiches. As good, if not better, than any I've heard lauded on this forum.

Fraks sucked it really really did. The steak meat tasted bad and the portion size was awful. To quotes wide they just did not make good cheese steaks. The best breakfast or cheesesteak for that matter is at Lisa's kitchen on ridge

I dunno. We've eaten at Frak's and gotten delivery a few times. I'm not saying they can compete with the top cheesesteak shops in the in the city, but they were definitely better than, say, Right Off Main. Now, I rarely eat red meat, so I ordered chicken cheesesteaks every time. My wife enjoyed their vegan cheesesteaks, but they discontinued them about a year ago. I know for a fact they they prepared our sandwiches fresh because I watched them and waited 15 minutes for our food while there were no other customers in the shop. Again, I can't speak to their beef cheesesteaks, but our sandwiches were good.

Their shoestring fries were pretty good, too. Certainly better than the typical crap they serve at every pizza shop in the city.

Seriously. I can't think of a worse place than Right Off Main. Saying Frak's was better is not exactly a ringing endorsement.
