    Default Burgundy School Uniforms?

I tried to take my toddler to the kiddie park at McDevitt this afternoon, and the entire toddler playground was over-run with a group of teenagers in burgundy school uniforms, being chaperoned by a middle-aged teacher looking kind of guy in a Temple polo shirt who seemed not to notice or care that it was impossible for my child to play at the park at all with 16 year olds lounging all over the park equipment, texting, and playing a modified game of basketball in the monkey bars. Anyone know what school this was? I didn't have the nerve in the moment to ask the teacher; i just ended up going down to Inn Yard Park to avoid confrontation.

Eastern has burgundy uniforms and they're right next to McDevitt.

I would think they are anxious to be good neighbors. If it were me, I'd emphasize that it was my inability to use the toddler equipment I object to, not their use of McDevitt in general. I don't think that pointing out that many little kids are home during the day and may want to use that equipment is unreasonable.

That happened to me a couple times too. The kids were really obnoxious and the chaperones overwhelmed. At one point, a guy who works there came out and talked to them. He told me later that they weren't welcome there. However, I doubt there's much they can do to enforce that.

I mostly avoid McDevitt now, especially in the middle of the day. It always feels a bit creepy there. There's either no one else around or often you see people just sitting in their cars in the parking lot. I don't know that anything suspicious is going on but it seems weird.

Thanks. I don't want to come off all NIMBY on them... I think it is great that there are kids there, and that they were chaperoned... they were just completely unaware that they made the playground unusable.

FWIW, the chaperone didn't seem overwhelmed, he just seemed to be oblivious.

Without knowing more, I would guess the Eastern University Academy Charter School, which is based at the Falls Center.

Hmmm. I refer you all to the thread in the National section about SAT reading scores declining...
