    Default Haircut rec's

Been to the Chop Shop on Main, The Hair Pair on Ridge, and both of the chain places on Ridge as well. No one's really impressed me though. Does anyone know a good hair place in the area?

For a men's cut I like King's on Main Street; it's across from Fleur. A cut is $15, and the owner/barber is friendly.

Don't know about women's hair though...

For men, the only place you need to go is The Men's Club on Ridge Ave (by the 7-11 at Dearnley St).

All 3 barbers are great at what they do, and cool guys as well.

I really like the haircut I got at GroundZero in the mills. The owner (a dude) cut my hair, he's from roxborough and did a great job.

I'll give them a try, much appreciated.

    Default I don't have a favorite...

but I did get a good cut at Kings the one time I went there. For real old barbershop flavor you can go to Tallerico's on Main St. or to Corey's at Ridge and Parker. Lately I've been going to Corey's. You'll get old-time boxing photos and some raw talk. In my world, when heterosexual males comment on your haircut, you stick with the place!

Another good, old-time barber shop is Tuti's on Main St, a couple doors down from Hikaru. 15 bucks for a haircut and Nick will tell you all about Main St. before it was "discovered". Sometimes, his mother is in the shop, as well.

I've seen him do shaves with a straight-edge razor, too.

Not exactly Manayunk, but I've been getting my hair cut at Ego in Ardmore for years now. Good crew there, reasonably priced. Kind of has a metro vibe to the place, but they're talented.

Ended up going to the chop shop out of pure laziness. This is actually the first time I've been happy with what they did.

The two old man shops on Main Street are great. I haven't been to any of the other places. Frank's in Chestnut Hill is LEGENDARY. Angelo's up there is pretty great, too.

I love old man barber shops.

The worst barbershop I've been to in the area is the one by the Wissahickon Train Station. Last time I went, there were two barbers in there. One was the standard old-man barber and the other was a younger guy in his 20s. The older guy was fine. The younger guy was awful. He chewed and spat tobacco while he cut hair. There were a ton of little kids in their from the neighborhood. He was openly telling them racist jokes and Holocaust jokes. A few of the kids were exchanging jokes with him.

I'm far from politically correct but these kids were pre-teens. Not a good thing to do. And, also, my wife's Jewish.

I'll never go back there again.

I remember going to Tuti's on a Good Friday morning because I was en route to church and really needed a haircut. Went there one or two more times over the years. The last time was a bit of a turnoff. When he came into the shop he looked like he was cutting his own hair while drunk, stopped to answer the phone, and then forgot what he was doing.

Before I threw in the towel and started getting a buzz cut from the wife due to hair loss, I used to go to the Men's Club on Ridge. I usually waited for Josh (one with shaved head). He gave great haircuts.

That is pretty bizarre. I'm pretty sure, I've never seen him drunk. A few times I've stopped by in the middle of day to find a "Be back in 15 minutes" sign on the door, which sometimes means a 1/2 hour or more. I just assume that he has to close the shop occasionally to take care of some errands (Bank, post office, etc.) since he is a one man operation.

However, I've been going there for 10 years and I always get a good haircut.

I apologize for implying he was drunk. I was describing what his own haircut looked like:
a drunken self-cut that was left unfinished. THAT was bizarre.

It isn't in the neighborhood but close enough. I'm Sergio on Fayette St in Conshy, a door down from the Boathouse, is a great place for a men's haircut. Free Beer, Tons of TVs, Very Pretty Stylists, Head Massages, Hot Towel and Straight Razor Shave, and did I mention Free Beer!
My friends and I have been going there for a good 6 months, all with different styles and all have been very satisfied with the service and the cut.
