    Default Falls Pharmacy Closing

Just heard that Falls Pharmacy will be closing on Thursday. This saddens me, as I have become a regular customer and felt very comfortable with them filling the prescriptions for my family and I. Having just moved to East Falls three months ago, I was very happy to have a neighborhood pharmacy. I always support local businesses, and I am not a fan of Rite Aid, which will be where all of their records will go. Does anyone have recommendations for another locally owned pharmacy neaby (such as Roxborough or Manayunk)?

Oldest pharmacy in the state of Pennsylvania - Morrison's Pharmacy in Roxborough. Second oldest pharmacy in the state of Pennsylvania - Germantown Pharmacy in Germantown. Both are from about 1860.

    That's a shame.

I feel like this was an inevitable outcome once they moved off of Conrad away from their customer base.

I also know they'd been robbed a couple times on Ridge, most recently at gunpoint.

I never understood that move. Conrad is a bit hidden away, but it's not a bad walk from most parts of East Falls and not too much trouble to drive/park there. However Ridge Ave is a very long and unpleasant walk unless you live in the adjacent apartments. Driving there anywhere close to rush hour is a PITA because of the way traffic builds up coming into EF, blocking access to the small parking lot and the spaces along the street.

We've always used Rite Aid because for me, being able to walk there trumps the local business aspect. In terms of products and service, they're pretty average. The one thing I really dislike is their crap off-the-shelf suburban building.

Too bad. I was always surprised that we had 2 pharmacy stores given our smallish population. Falls Pharmacy made much more sense to me on Conrad.

Didn't the dry cleaner change ownership this year?

    Ross, remember this thread? lol

I didn't think the Falls Pharmacy had a good location. Being elevated and set-back from the sidewalk like that really hurts your presence, especially when it's only accessible by stairs that are off to the side.

The Onion Flats project avoids that last negative, while still retaining the other two. But I'm expecting their execution to be much better. Maybe a pharmacy will go in there.

That is an old location. Right now that is part of Johnny Mananas.

The current location is between Allegheny Ave and the Route 1 bridges.
