Default dentist recommendations? - pediatric and general

We're new to the area and are looking for a good dentist in the area (that pref. accepts CIGNA).

Just took my kids to Cavity Busters and wasn't that excited about them (in fact a little shocked by their very aggressive recommendations - will need to seek second opinion about my kids' crown recommendations for the cavities on her baby teeth)! For those of you who use them or decided to change, please share your feedback.

Also, my husband and I have appointments scheduled at American Dental Care? Anybody have experiences with them - good and bad?

You're welcome to take this topic off-list, and please PM me.

    Thanks for your trouble.

I take my daughter to Dr. Bressler's and so far I'm happy with them. Granted, she's 18 months old, so my recommendation on that doesn't count for much.

I do NOT recommend American Dental Concepts or whatever that place is called. I did not find the dentist there to have a good bedside manner. He actually went over to the other chair to tell my husband how many cavities I had. I also think he uses the initial consultation to find as many things to "fix" as he can, to ensure the most payout from insurance companies. He told me I had 6 cavities, 4 other areas to fill in, and that I should get my teeth whitened, despite that my insurance wouldn't cover all of that.

Maybe other people had better experiences, but I don't appreciate gold digging when I go to the dentist, and that's how I felt there.

I've gone to Dr Glenn once and after taking time off from work for my appointment he looked me over then I had to schedule ANOTHER appointment to meet with the hygienist - every other dentist I've ever been to had that all wrapped into one visit. The service was fine so I recommended him to a co-worker who SPECIFICALLY asked to have an appointment on a day the hygienist was there, and once again after showing up and being looked over they made him set up another appointment. Like I said, service was friendly but kind of a pain in the butt to need 2 appointments for what should be one visit. I'll be looking elsewhere in the future.

I dunno.... my experience of most dentists in this area has been exactly what you describe. My sense is that the dentist wants to look things over and make sure everything is fine before scheduling a new hygiene appointment with an unknown.

I have been going to Dr Glen for about 2 years now for 6 month cleaning/check-ups, and I have never had the experience burnem describes. Every time it's been a cleaning followed by a check-up by Dr. Glen, except for the first appt. when Dr. Glen looked at me first and then I had the cleaning. I have heard about this stuff going on at American Dental Concepts from a co-worker though.

I have been going to Dr Glen for several years, as well. His policy is to examine all new patients first, then create a plan for their treatment going forward. This is only for the initial appointment, and he made this clear to me from the beginning. After that, you will either make an appoint with the hygienist for a cleaning or Dr. Glen for specific dental work.

In my case, I had just finished some serious medical treatment that affected my gums. Dr. Glen's plan was not to perform a regular cleaning until we took some steps to heal my gums first. I also had a botched filling (from another Ridge Ave Dentist who I will not name) that required me to be fitted for a crown. My wife required, a "deep cleaning" for which she was given Novocaine and it took 4 appointments to complete.

I am glad that Dr. Glen performed this evaluation before jumping in and giving us a regular cleaning that may not have been right for us at the time. I don't know of any good dentists that will allow you to just call-up and make an appointment with a hygienist for a cleaning, without any sort of evaluation first.

Another vote for Dr Glen. I went there after many problems with another dentist in the area. He replaced my shoddy fillings that were literally falling out a year after having them done. I also had the initial visit the way you describe which I think is the norm for most dentist. A word to the wise- Be wary of a dentist on Ridge Ave between Wawa and the high school! I wish I had gone with my gut and found another dentist sooner!

I go to Dr. Glen and I'm sufficiently pleased.
