    Default To Neighborhood Pet Owners

Please be careful when you have your dog or cat in the yard.

Today I saw posters on telephone poles that said a dog was taken from its yard on the 400 block of Dupont. Then I saw a sign up on the home at Green Lane & Mitchell that said "bring back our cat" (the house with the pig in the yard).

We all know the reasons that pets are stolen, and none of them are good. So PLEASE PLEASE use extra caution and watch your furry children.

I've heard of dogs being taken, but never cats. I'm sure it happens, but this is the first I've heard. Scary.

I received this notice from the Friends of the Wissahickon, just though I would pass along for people walking their dogs in the park:

Rabid raccoon reported in the Wissahickon

The Philadelphia Department of Health notified Philadelphia Parks & Recreation staff today that a raccoon captured in the Wissahickon this past weekend tested positive for rabies. The raccoon bit a park visitor prior to its capture near the Valley Green Inn.

Visitors should exercise extreme caution around park mammals, and report any raccoons or other animals exhibiting strange behavior to local law enforcement and the PA Game Commission's Southeast Regional Office at 610-926-3136.
