    Default Han in Manayunk

To those unfamiliar with Han Dynasty, this is great news.

This will probably spell the end of Beijing Homestyle. Han Dynasty, if you haven't heard, is THE BEST Chinese restaurant in the city. This is great for Manayunk. I've been to their spot in Old City and, especially on weekends, it gets ridiculously crowded. HD is definitely a destination.

EDIT: Didn't realize Beijing Homestyle is gone. Now it all makes sense. Especially the part about opening this Friday, which is crazy fast.

Also, I wonder if it will be BYO. Old City is no longer BYO and to my knowledge, Beijing Homestyle didn't have a liquor license. That makes this announcement doubly good for me!

Congrats Manayunk, you now have one more huge A-hole in your neighborhood. Does this finally push you guys to capacity?

    Care to elaborate?

ETA: Nevermind, saw your comment on the link. Obviously some personal history there.

I don't see any link in gweez's post. What's wrong with Han? Did you try to order General Tso's chicken from him before? He can be abrasive, but he is just very passionate about his food.

look in the article comments and no, when i used to go it was usually lamb cumin. Has nothing to do with my order, but if he doesnt want people to order something, dont put it on the menu. has nothing to do with his passion, has to do with how he treats people, and abrasive would be an offensively kind exageration. if he doesn't want to treat people nicely, probably shouldn't go into owning a restaurant.

My wife and I are "regulars" and he's always nice to us. Sorry you haven't had a good experience.

If he can yell at his customers and still be packed then this place is definitely on my list of places to check out. I've got thick skin, and I don't need my butt kissed.

Nice. So this guy is like the Chinese Food Nazi? That definitely sounds interesting but if he is truthfully very abrasive on a good day, it certainly makes the restaurant business an interesting choice.

More solid news for Manayunk's dining scene.

I have now been in this area for 10 years, and I have to say that the scene on Main Street seems to be trending more toward young adults/families (as opposed to just students) in recent years. I've seen this for both restaurants/bars and shopping.

Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

I am super-excited for this! His food is excellent; the only reason I don't go more often is that I don't feel like going to Old City.

I just told my wife today that there are alot more reasons to go to Main Street all of a sudden. The two groceries are worth exploring, it seems. The new fancy restaurant which just relocated from Narberth. Now this. The irony is that I sort of liked Beijing Homestyle. I didn't love it, but it was my go-to place on Main Street. Quick service, good food, and reasonable prices are a great combination.

I loved Beijing Homestyle! It is a shame they are gone. While I understand a lot of people like Han Dynasty, I am not a fan. Went once and I thought it was overrated. But I am happy that Main Street will not have a big vacancy.

As are my wife and I. Not rude as much as opinionated and i think it's a bit of a shtick. I think he's hilarious. Kind of reminds me of David Chang of Momofuko fame from what I've rea from/about him.

Was Beijing Homestyle the same place as Green Leaf or whatever it was called?
