I would say a few of these places are afraid of what the Foodery would do to business. I have to admit that Worldwide isn't bad, but they all suffer "no price tags" on most product. So you end up buying a case of something new and end up spending more cause you didn't know the price of the product. You find the beer that you want to try it's under 4 other cases of beer, you bring it up to the front and it checks it at 60 dollars. It's annoying to bring it back and start the decision process again. I am a person that likes to try something new every time.

The Foodery is great as you can pick and choose and everything labelled and priced so you know what you are spending up front.

Agreed. Good signage is a must for me at a beer place. I don't care how good it is; I am not paying 60 for a case of something, especially if it is not labelled at all.

It's also comparing Fuji Apples to Granny Smiths when in PA talking about a case place vs 6 pack place.

Yeah Bella Vista seems to do pretty well and they have everything labeled with prices, and that's a place where getting out of there paying only $60 a case is a bargain. With their selection you can easily crack $100 a case.

Worldwide could actually benefit from the Foodery much like the relationship between Hawthorne's and Bella Vista. Going out and buying an entire case of a new beer is a big risk, especially if it's pricey. You can go to a place like the Foodery and mix and match a 6 pack, and if you find something you really like you could head around the corner to Worldwide to pick up a case if they carried it.

The past two weekends I saw some work being done in the building. Peeked in through the semi-propped open door and it looks like the floor is done and fridges were installed.

Anyone else have any info, I really can't wait any longer.

They are definitely moving forward. I think they had a delay that had something to do with sprinklers. It took a while to get that addressed. I can't wait, either!

As someone who lives in a neighborhood that recently got a "real" bottleshop, this is a huge deal, particularly for a place like Rox. Cheers to a speedy opening.

Weren't they originally supposed to open on Main Street? I guess if the MNC/MDC is to be believed, Roxborough will fall into a quick decline fueled by drunk patrons of the Foodery.

Nope. The owners of Hawthornes originally were going to open a store on Main Street but gave up after ridiculous resistance from the MNC.

Manayunk's loss is Roxborough's gain. It should generate many more trips to the Ridge.

    Uh, wrong.
    That's totally false.

    MNC supported Hawthornes.

A unanimous vote of the Manayunk Neighborhood Council approving a new beer-seller along Main Street.

Wednesday night, the group agreed to support the owners of the award-winning South Philly Hawthornes Beer Boutique and Gourmet Eatery
in seeking a zoning application to sell takeaway beer and food at 4329 Main St., the former Events in Style location...

The founders of Hawthornes Café, located in Philly’s Hawthorne section, have received
a unanimous vote from the Manayunk Neighborhood City Council in favor
of the new takeaway beer and food locale.

PlanPhilly’s Amy Quinn reports that the Manayunk Neighborhood Council voted unanimously this week
(an extremely rare occurrence) to approve the new venture.

Hrm. My mistake. I must be losing my mind. So in that case, why did it fail to materialize?

And now I realize my mistake, the MNC both did in fact oppose the Foodery on Main St., so philly57 was right. So they were irrational when it came to the Foodery but on the mark supporting Hawthorne's.

    Eh, wouldn't go that far.

Without wasting far too many words correctly persistent half-truths.

    Facts are

First, the business owners along Main Street, MDC (basically the "chamber of commerce") voted to oppose the Foodery.
That vote rendered the project dead.

    Just to repeat that -
Once the business community for Main Street voted that they would not bend the law to bring the Foodery in, the project was dead.

The neighbors group, MNC met later and their vote basically recognized that the Foodery was a dead letter,

IIRC, with a high turnout of business members AT the MNC meeting.

    Nope - totally rational.

The project was already dead upon the vote of the other business owners.

Voting to support the Foodery AFTER the businesses opposed it would be like buying Eagles playoff tickets last week...

What was the reason for opposing?

By the way, Hal's revelation is pretty disappointing to anyone who sees a lot of potential and promise in Manayunk/Roxborough. Between historically and architecturally significant structures being torn down for fast food chains in Roxborough and business having the power to keep competition away in Manayunk, not to mention that neighborhood association's ridiculous requirements, maybe that area is closing in on a glass ceiling that's lower than I thought.
