Default Kendrick and Hillside Pool Schedule

After arriving at Kendrick to swim with my two sunscreened kids at 10:15 I found out that they open at 11:00. Then when I went inside the rec center to make sure my eldest went to the bathroom before swimming I saw two women in the office (they don't normally answer the phone and the answering machine doesn't have any information about swim times -- at least it didn't over the weekend). They handed me a piece of paper with the pool schedule on it. That is, apparently, the only way to find out what the sched is. It's not on any website or voicemail. We went to Hillside at 11:00 (they didn't answer their phone either) and luckily it was Parents & Tots swim and we had the whole pool to ourselves! So, to help others avoid this same problem I will post the swim times for Kendrick and Hillside Rec Centers.

    Hillside Pool Hours:
    Parents and Tots -- M - F, 11:00 - 12:00
    Public Swim -- M - F, 3:00 - 5:00; Sat-Sun, 1:30 - 3:00
    Family Swim -- Tues.& Thur., 5:00 - 6:00; Sat-Sun, 3:00 - 6:00
    Adult Swim -- M - F, 6:00-7:00

    Kendrick Pool Hours:
    Parents and Tots -- Fri., 11:00 - 12:00; Sat., 1:00 - 2:00
    Public Swim -- M - Sat., 2:00 - 4:00
    Adult and Family Swim -- M- Thur., 5:00 - 7:00; Fri., 4:00 - 7:00; Sun., 1:00 - 5:00

    Thanks!

ETA: Any hints on the differences between the classifications? It seems like "adult and family swim" would be the same thing as "public swim"...

ETA2: Any hints on what happens at Hillside M/W/F from 5-6?

Adult Swim is just for adults, no kids allowed.
Family Swim is for kids and adults, but no kids without an adult. For some reason Kendrick groups Adult and Family Swim together so if you're looking to do laps you probably won't be able to at Kendrick. But Hillside separates the two so adults only during Adult Swim and Family Swim is kids accompanied by an adult.

MWF from 5 to 6 at Hillside is "Swim Team." Not sure what that means.

Anyone can go. They don't check IDs.

Cool thanks for the info. I would like to take my 2 year old daughter to one of these pools but am unsure what to expect.

I know that Hillside runs a daycamp from the hours of 9am-3pm, so I assume the camp has use of the pool during that time.

Does anyone know of the hours for the Hillside pool on Monday, July 5th? Will it be open normal Monday hours, even though it's a holiday?

    Thanks!

Does anybody know if this information is still true - particularly for Hillside? The updates to the City's websites are abysmal.

Saw this on the Patch today:
Kendrick will operate as follows daily:

    Day Camps—11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Open Community Swim—1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    Various classes—4 to 5 p.m.
    Adult and family swim—5 to 7 p.m.

At Hillside, classes are offered daily from 11 a.m. to noon. In addition, swimming is open to the community from 1 to 4 p.m., an employee said.

In addition, Hillside has a policy that every two young children must be accompanied by an adult.

For more Hillside info, contact the recreation center at 215-685-2595.

Can someone tell me about a typical experience at these pool? I'm thinking about Kendrick in particular. Do you just show up and walk in? Is it usually crowded? Are there crazy kids everywhere? The hours seem strange.

First off, per this website it doesn't open until June 25. WTF?

Swimming Pool | Kendrick Recreation Center

Second, I live by the Kendrick and I've never seen a pool. I investigated further today and didn't see anything. Is this the same rec center on Roxborough between Ridge and Mitchell? If so, where is the damn pool? Is it indoors? If so, how do you get in?

The pool is right on the corner of Ridge and Roxborough, enclosed in the brick wall. Over the entrance on the corner, you will see the words "SWIMMING POOL".
