Default We have psychotic neighbors

Not to turn this into another "white trash" thread, I just wanted to tell you guys about our neighbors and the incident that prompted me to post about them here on PS.

Saturday night. Pretty rainy so my g/f, her sister and myself decide to watch some movies. Its about 5:30 when we hear a lot of commotion on the street (we live on Manayunk ave b/w Ridge and Salaignac). We look out the window, and there is an enormous guy in his 20's screaming at the top of his lungs challenging people to fight him. Cars are driving by and he starts hitting the cars with his fists. Knowing they are frequently disturbing the general public, I immediately call 911 because I can already anticipate that things are going to spin wildly out of control.

As I am on the phone with the 911 operator, I am explaining my location, the number of people, etc, when all of the sudden, a 3rd man charges after the one large guy with a shovel and starts assaulting the other individual with it. I mention this to the 911 girl and she asks for a general description.

Cops come 5 minutes later. Its the 6th time this year the cops have been called to their residence. I was extremely frustrated however that the cops let everyone go!

Thoughts, questions, comments?

If they are renting, look up the owner on public tax records & contact them to let them know about these clowns.

I believe they own. They've been a problem for the last couple of years. Their children (a girl around 10 and a boy around 8) threw rocks at a brand new grill we bought 2 summers ago. I've caught the father on. A couple different occasions discarding his dog's soiled sh*t bags in our garbage can in our back driveway.

I've confronted them on a number of occasions, but my g/f is now afraid of retaliation against us or our property because these are the type of people who would do something like that.

We had just got done watching Zombieland and were getting ready to watch Gran Torino.

Looking for some advice because it has gotten to the point where we fear they would do something unpredictable.

Have you spoken to other neighbors? If two or three of you from different residences could set up a meeting with the local captain or however the PD is setup in your area, they might take it more seriously. They could advise their patrolmen that this home is a "nuisance residence" and go from there. Perhaps that would eventually lead to charges or fines.

Ugh, sorry to hear this. I would talk to your neighbors about it, as I'm sure you're not alone in your concerns. I don't think the cops can do much in a situation like that, unless someone decides to press charges.

Do they rent or own? If they rent, you need to let the landlord know that he has a liability on his hands, one which could really mess him up if left unchecked. If they own, the chances are excellent that they inherited the house. In that case you should check the BRT to see whether the taxes are current. If they aren't I would initiate a tax sale against the house, using a straw party. Other than that, I wouldn't hesitate to call the police when they get out of line. If they're that irrational, they will eventually take it too far, even with the police, and then they'll be gone for a while. Once the income dries up due to being in jail for even one or two weeks, they'll go under.

Default Police Service Area 1

I'm the PSA for service area 1 which you live in. Email me the exact address at knwmn@yahoo.com and I'll have a conversation with the Lieutenant about it.
Within about a month, month and half, you should start seeing a regular beat cop in the neighborhood, on foot.
Regards
Keith

PSA is Police Service Area. Its the new way the district is policing. They have officers assigned to 3 zones in the 5th district.

Keith, remember not everyone knows what these acronyms mean.

It says "Police Service Area 1" in his title. It's OK, I rarely read the titles myself...

Pretty soon one of these clowns will challenge the wrong person and they won't be a problem any more. Idiots like these tend to have short life spans.

As a result of this thread, I just visited the PPD's website for the first time in ages ... color me impressed. I don't recall ever being able to get names, email addresses and phone numbers as easily. It always seemed to be a guessing game. Not only that, there's a calendar for each district, listing the upcoming community meetings -- info that I haven't seen anywhere else. (For example, there's a community meeting for my district tonight). It would be great if this info could be broadcast more widely.
