i got an invitation to my big boss's daughter's bat mitzvah (the invite is VERY fancy - when i got it i thought it was a wedding invite and couldn't figure out who the heck was getting married. thought maybe i had a random cousin getting hitched...)
anywho, the ceremony is at 9:30 am followed by a Kiddish Luncheon. Then there is a separate card that indicated the festivities follow at 6:00 pm at a fancy schmancy place for cocktails, dinner and dancing.
my invited was addressed to me and a guest.
my question: the dude has a class on Saturday mornings so he would not be able to attend the ceremony or lunch. would it be inappropriate to take him to the evening celebration?
for this type of evening, is a cocktail dress appropriate (like i would wear to a wedding?). i figured a "church dress" for the ceremony and a nicer dress for the evening would be okay. and well, i'd love a reason to buy a new dress
is it safe to assume that cold hard cash is an appreciated gift?
