    Default Tony Scott Kills himself...

    Really sad and shocking stuff....

Director Tony Scott jumps to death from bridge

Scott was director of Tom Cruise's Top Gun, as well as Beverly Hills Cop II and the remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.

Known for his trademark red baseball cap, the British-born Scott was the brother of director Ridley Scott, and the two shared producing credits on the CBS dramas The Good Wife and NUMB3RS.

I'm curious why does that make it sadder? Beyond any religious arguments it appears that he decided to go out on his own terms rather than be disassembled by an inoperable disease.

Now where I really find fault is in the method, his body had to be retrieved from the water putting rescue/recovery folk in some degree of danger. Also I would expect a director to come up with something a little better than jumping off an inconsequential bridge in LA but he did have brain cancer...

Weirdly it was my very first thought that he had some kind of terminal medical situation.

Still, severe depression can creep up on someone, and that should be distinguished from rational choice. The medical community really needs to re-evaluate its approach to end of life issues. If someone wants an end, they shouldn't have to be limited to jumping off bridges because of weird laws. Thats what I find so sad about the situation.

The prospect of drowning sounds just as frightening to me as dying of brain cancer. Interesting how different people react to the same diagnosis. Coincidentally, a friend of mine also just found out that she has inoperable brain cancer. She's always been someone of exceptionally strong faith and has taken the news like a real champ. I don't know if she's in denial or is actually that strong. I really wish for her sake that this story weren't in the news.
