Default Disturbing e-mails could spell more trouble for Penn State officials

Disturbing e-mails could spell more trouble for Penn State officials

With convicted serial child sex abuser Jerry Sandusky behind bars, new questions are surfacing about what Penn State officials knew about a 2001 incident involving the former assistant football coach's encounter with a boy in the shower -- and whether they covered up the incident.

After the 2001 incident, Sandusky sexually abused other boys over the course of years until his arrest.

"Pretending has always been a part of me," Sandusky, now 67, wrote in his autobiography, "Touched: The Jerry Sandusky Story," published in 2000. "I've loved trying to do the right things to hopefully make a difference in kids' lives and maybe make things better off for them. I'll never regret being called a 'great' pretender."

Sounds like another Michael Jackson - in denial about his sickness.
And his book, "Touched" - is aptly named... ya think?

And the part of the article:
"He married Dottie Gross in 1966, the year he graduated from Penn State. He'd met her at a picnic the previous summer and although he was shy and awkward around girls, his mother pushed him to pursue the relationship."

Sounds like your typical parental pressure to marry and live the (forced) life of a straight person.... bleh, what a crock.
I wonder how many of you out there in cyberland are living a lie, forced upon you from birth.
The wife, the kids, church, the manly sports.... all to please mama & papa, when you'd really (secretly) enjoy a good boner up your tush.

    Hahahaha!

This guy is not gay. He's not attracted to adult males and doesn't want to have consensual sex. He's a predatory pedophile rapist.

I saw a guy in the gallery on Thursday wearing Enron gear. Guess that legitimizes that whole lil' debacle.

His mother pushed him to pursue the relationship? Seems like what they did back in the days of old Hollywood. The heads of a major studio would find out one of their leading men was homosexual, so they would then arrange what was called a "lavender marriage." They'd marry the gay guy to some starlet to mask his homosexuality, lest the studio lose tons of money if the public found out the truth. Back then, being found out as homosexual was the kiss of death to an entertainer's career. Even Liberace denied he was to the very end despite being flamboyantly gay. There were so many gay actors, the only ones the studios were sure weren't gay were Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy.

    That's indeed right LemKo.

It's all about MONEY with the entertainment business - and making LOTS of it.
Pretty boys attract young girls attention, and those young girls spend money on them.

Ricky Martin made girls' hearts throb for years, and it $old plenty of CD's.
Rock Hudson kissing Doris Day $old lots of theater tickets.

A wholesome family show wouldn't be a money-making hit if they knew Mike Brady was a horn-honker.

    Right?

These are not earth-shaking events, just a manipulation of the masses, fronts-for-profit.
Even Elvis had "private moments" with people like James Dean, among others.
One has to wonder about the 3 failed marriages of "pretty boy" Tom Cruise....

But ya had to keep it "hush" - contracts demanded it - lawsuits were messy.

Nevertheless, if Sandusky was queer, or just a sick perv, it goes to show that early-on manipulation eventually surfaces as a big ugly scandal - when if people were allowed to grow up and live without the suppression and pressure to be something they're not, the outcome might be quite different.

That old, worn-out "Mama wants me to get married to a nice girl" is part of the problem.

Default Ray Gricar, Missing Pennsylvania DA, Opted Not To Prosecute Jerry Sandusky

The criminal case against former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky has put the media spotlight back on the missing persons case of Ray Gricar. An esteemed district attorney, Gricar failed to prosecute Sandusky for sex crimes in 1998, and later disappeared without a trace.

Penn State scandal: Thoughts on the latest developments - Hard Hits - The Washington Post

I’m thinking these e-mails were leaked to draw attention away from what could be a very ho-hum final report. It seems like with Sandusky being convicted and civil suits on the way, the university is looking to isolate the blame. After all, assigning blame to individuals is easier than doing so to an entire institution. So one isolated piece of evidence released now can influence how the public will receive the final report when it’s eventually released.

It makes me wonder: Are any Penn State trustees implicated in this report being compiled by Freeh? If all of this information has been around for years, where were they? Tom Corbett failed to bring allegations against Sandusky when he was state attorney general all those years ago; now, he is the governor of Pennsylvania and a member of the Penn State Board of Trustees. I would assume an entire section of this report will be dedicated to discussing his role in the matter.

Berks prospect spurns Penn State for Notre Dame

Alex Anzalone, a linebacker from Berks County who had Penn State as one of three finalists for his choice of colleges, said Sunday night that he had made an oral commitment to Notre Dame for the freshman Class of 2013.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Anzalone, whose announcement was carried live by ESPNU, is a senior at Wyomissing Area High School. He de-committed from Ohio State in May, two weeks after announcing he would play football for the Buckeyes. He also had Florida on his final list.

Anzalone was ranked in the top four in Pennsylvania by Rivals, Scout, and ESPNU, and in the top five prospects nationally among outside linebackers. He originally committed to Ohio State on April 21 while on a visit for the Scarlet and Gray spring football game in Columbus, but changed his mind May 4 after learning he had allowed his photograph to be taken after the game with a 31-year-old man who is a registered sex offender in Kentucky. Anzalone's father told ESPN.com that his son "was creeped out" by the matter.

    No more hiding....

Live: Penn State officials concealed Sandusky's activities, probe says – This Just In - CNN.com Blogs

Here are what the report calls "key findings" relating to Penn State officials' response to the sexual abuse allegations:

    • Before May 1998, several staff members and football coaches regularly observed Sandusky showering with young boys in the Lasch Building (now the East Area Locker Building or “Old Lasch”). None of the individuals interviewed notified their superiors of this behavior.

    • University Police and the Department of Public Welfare responded promptly to the report by a young boy’s mother of a possible sexual assault by Sandusky in the Lasch Building on May 3, 1998.

    • While no information indicates University leaders interfered with the investigation, Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley were kept informed of the investigation.

    • On May 5, 1998, Schultz’s notes about the incident state: “Is this opening of pandora’s
    box? Other children?"

    • On June 9, 1998, Schultz emails Spanier and Curley: “I think the matter has been appropriately investigated and I hope it is now behind us [emphasis added].”

    • Detective recalled interviewing Sandusky in the Lasch Building so as not to put him “on the defensive.” The detective advised Sandusky not to shower with any child and Sandusky said he “wouldn’t.”At the conclusion of the investigation, no charges were filed against Sandusky.

    • Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley did not even speak to Sandusky about his conduct on May 3, 1998 in the Lasch Building.

    • Despite their knowledge of the criminal investigation of Sandusky, Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley took no action to limit Sandusky’s access to Penn State facilities or took any measures to protect children on their campuses.

    • Spanier and Schultz failed to report the 1998 investigation to the Board of Trustees.

    • Sandusky was convicted of several assaults that occurred after the 1998 incident. Some of these sexual assaults against young boys might have been prevented had Sandusky been prohibited from bringing minors to University facilities and University football bowl
    games.
