Default Phillyblog Tribute Thread on the Anniversary of its Rise and Fall

It was exactly 10 years ago to this day that Phillyblog came into existence (I am totally making that up) and this is a nice time to reflect on who we were back then and what we have become. So on this anniversary of the rise and fall of Phillyblog (I am totally making that up) - maybe it is time to reflect on some of the fun times and good people that we met there.

Ok, so we know what went down with Phillyblog and it is too bad that it became so complicated. However, we must admit - (many of us) that we had a few laughs on that site.

I have always said that the Ikea thread was my favorite time on that site. In fact, I refer to it as the halcyon days of blog. All that Fluffles nonsense makes me misty and the photoshops of the dogs of Fairmount. I loved the thread where we all posted pictures of our impressions of the various characters on here. And the Macy's thread was by far the most useless waste of time that has ever graced this here interwebnets. I will admit now that I was Ethel Finkleberg and I was the one that attempted to find Sandy a nice Jewish girl.

So, on this amazing day when we reflect on the we who we once were (I'm totally making this up) - I wonder if I'm the only one that wishes this site could try to get a bit of the fun back. I realize that any site such as this will tend to get its nerd on, but I miss a bit of the funk - Abner Levy would agree with me on this.

By the way, Phillyblog happy hours were different, better attended, and slightly edgier....(Ok, I'm totally making that up).

My favorite time on PB was busting on Councilman Wilson Goode, Jr and his piece of ass, Latrice Bryant, aka: Latrine Bryant. Some of the comments and pictures had me nearly peeing my pants!
    Goode times!

I joined kind of late (2008) but I remember Joe Carter's unsettling experience with an expired can of Spaghetti-Os, and the ensuing commentary. Fortunately, I believe he lived, and hopefully has not moved onto experimenting with expired milk.

I would give top marks to Weblo Village, or whatever that brilliant satirist called himself. Terrified suburbanite caught in the wilds of the big city.

Oh, and here's to Zogby Blob, early adopter & early deserter.

I miss Miss Blanche: everytime one of the ladies waiting for the Rossmore shuttle @ BART ogles me I think of her. I always thought the Count was MB, but once he owned up to being Ethel I realized it must have been someone else (no one could squeeze that much creative nonsense inside themself....even if they're packing a six-foot-whatever frame)

The macy*s thread - at least the first 215 pages of it; the Duckboat thread; fantasizing about how hot Hospitality Girl was (she's probably still hot, but we're all years older now, so she isn't as hot as she was then)

    ...ah memories...

Hey, now, I'm a suburbanite! I never was really aware of Weeblo though he has seemed entertaining the few times he's been on here.

Actually, Count Funkula himself was one of my favorite PBers.

Ahh, I remember him. In the early days, it seemed like the board was just a long IM chat between eldondre, Zogby, Brooke and Geno. I think the board peaked around 2006, when it had just the right balance of substantive discussion and silliness. Now it's too hostile and a bit of a downer.

I have been a forum-goer since I was 12, that's just the way we perceive things. You join, everything is exciting, then you get used to each other, and for a glorious year or so everything is right, then bit by bit people will become less active. Then, instead of welcoming new people into the fold you sort of cry that everything is worse. Now you guys have integrated me fairly well, but don't be so sure that everything is going downhill.

Just because a woman is older doesn't make her less attractive!

I met a lot of nice people through PB. I grateful, but that makes the stupidity behind its demise that much more irritating.

I admit I miss garofalofan. I don't know how to describe his work other than to say I enjoyed it.

Of course, the PB trivia team was great fun. Winston was our invincible culture vulture... until he said he had never seen The Blues Brothers. It all seemed to go downhill from there.
