    Default Game of Thrones

Did anyone enjoy HBO's Game of Thrones as much as I did? I'm surprised there wasn't a thread on here (although I might have missed it).

I'm really bummed that I have to wait over 9 months for the next season. That's pretty rare (although I enjoy True Blood alot too...

I just finished watching the season finale. It's a great show and i wish the 2nd season would begin next week. 9 months is much too long to wait.

I'm trying to catch up to current on Treme before getting into Game of Thrones. Looking forward to it, though.

I thought it was brilliant acting, writing, wardrobe and sets. HBO really does a great job with these period pieces.

    It's quite good.

At least you can read the book until then.

Seems most who read the book enjoy watching it as much as the we do watching it for the first time.

The books are great. The TV show is more like an outline of the plot from the books. Dinklage does a great job as Tyrion. I don't know what the producers would have done if he had refused the part.

Loved it and can't wait for next season! I just checked recently to see if anyone had posted about it and was surprised no one had. And yes, thank god for True Blood starting up.
On a related note, has anyone tried watching Camelot? It's pretty funny how horrible it is compared to Game of Thrones. I mean it would have been a crap show regardless, but the fact that it came out at the same time is pretty sad for the people who made it.

It was very true to the books, of which all four I have read.

I stuck with Camelot as long as I could and just got so sick of the crappy dialogue-and the actor cast as Arthur was such a wuss it just wasn't convincing and I could'nt take it anymore.

I gotta say though that Eva Green is so damn hot and she was a great Morgana-she was the main reason to watch it.

Almost through the first book. Great book. While read the rest also. The series seems very true to the books.

Tywin is subject to one of the most hilarious lines in the whole series in the third book.

    I shall say no more.

Not rare for HBO shows. All of their shows pretty much take a year between seasons.

I gotta admit, I was skeptical. The series never struck me as a surefire screen adaptation. Lots of history, lots of details, a ridiculously slow build and a noticeable lack of most of the things people associate with fantasy--overt magic, big battles, strange species and so on. A Song of Fire and Ice is none of those things. It's subtle and gritty and complex and intricately plotted; not usually the sort of fare that lends itself to television these days, even premium channels like HBO.

But, they did one heck of a job. They've stayed faithful to the story while doing an inspired job of streamlining and consolidating. Dinklage is a star, yeah, but pretty much the whole cast is spot-on. (Save Lena Headley's Cersei, who's pretty much the weak link, but not embarrassingly so.)

Really? I think the actress that plays Cersei is terrific.

Tyrion's got some great lines in the first series. "Shagga likes axes" (I know-not in the book but funny)

The book starts out slow, IMO. It takes a long time to set up/intro all the characters. People kept on telling me give it a chance. So I did. And after finishing GoT last night...wow. Great read. Already have my order in for book 2.

I will most likely read the books but tbh I just read the wiki on the houses to get a handle on each of the characters and how they relate....which unfortunately led to reading the plot synopses of each of the books thus far. I did wait until the end of the first season to do this and I've noticed that as I re-watch them the read-through of some of the more nuanced plot points is allowing me to enjoy the season an an entirely different level than I had previously experienced.

I'm worried that I may have spoiled the second season a bit for myself but I'm pretty sure I'll still manage to enjoy it.
A little nonsense, now and then, is relished by the wisest men.
