anyhow....good that we don't have that cultural tradition of getting family portraits, or having our kids take pictures with santa/easter bunny/etc every year 'til they're 14.

Our family pictures are from parties, social gatherings, etc. The only "portraits" we might have and display at home are from our weddings.

With digital pictures, email, facebook, etc, I'm not sure people keep picture albums anymore, I know I don't.

(I'm talking in plural as a culture, granted they're exceptions)
