    Default Legal pistols

Would like to start a thread about legal and responsible gun ownership in the city.
I know this is a knee-jerk topic, and ask that people hold their opinions. I am looking for facts and genuine advice.
Can anyone direct me to statistics about numbers of such owners? Any female gun owners want to give me constructive advice? There are many helpful blogs of a national scope, but would like to hear from my fellow Philadelphians.

At a recent course I attended, It was 4 men, and 8 women. The women usually outnumber the men.

I have a Glock 19 4th gen. I love it. I'm about to buy a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380 as a carry piece. I'm a member at my local range (not in Philly) and there are a fair number of women there, but generally with their boyfriends. It's fun, just take the time to become familiar with your gun. I go at least once a week to practice.

Also, I'm not sure how things differ in the city, but in Chester County it was super easy to get a license to carry.

What's making you go with the S&W 380 as opposed to the LCP? Having never shot that S&W I can't offer an opinion, but I found the LCP to be one of the best shooting carry pieces I've ever handled.

It's a close call, but the shorter trigger pull and integrated laser sights (!!) put the SW over the edge, plus I like the way it looks.

They're similarly priced. There's a used bodyguard at Targetmaster for under $300, but I'm not sure a $100 discount is worth buying a used gun....especially since I understand there were laser sight issues with the early Bodyguards.

And, I realize that given the use of the bodyguard (short range, carry pistol) the sights aren't as likely to be super useful, I still love them.

My guy just bought a sight for his AR and it makes it so much more fun. Now I want them on everything.

Understood, and having never shot the SW, I can say the trigger on the LCP is longer (but plenty light) than I feel it should be on such a small gun. FWIW, the LCP has TWO variants of integrated laser sights; Crimson Trace and another brand. The CT have been well reviewed on every piece and on the LCP, unlike on the SW, they are activated by grip, not a button you need to push with the trigger finger. For $100 on a gun like that, I wouldn't go used. It's not like these are 10k round range monsters, and given the propensity for pocket carry, I'd be concerned about the care.

I have a laser on my AR, and it is awesome. More fun than function, but still cool nonetheless. My next purchase is a sub compact SW M&P9, and CT makes the laser for it; that'll be my new carry piece.

I bought it brand new yesterday and had a blast practicing. I never realize how super easy the trigger pull on my Glock is until I switch weapons.

Love the SW, but getting used to the much shorter grip is going to be my main focus. The Glock just feels so much more accurate and easy, even with the increased size and weight. And, I'm only 5'6", I don't have large hands.

The guy just ordered les baer and wilson 1911s, but one will take 6 months and the other 12 months to come in. Those I can't WAIT to try.
