Default Sheriff Williams wants an SUV & thinks you might like to donate to the cause

Clout: The sheriff wants an SUV. Wanna chip in?

Williams, sworn in as sheriff last month after serving in the state House since 2000, said that the city had refused to buy him a new $38,000 Chevy Tahoe SUV with a souped-up law-enforcement engine, known as a pursuit vehicle.

Instead, he is stuck with a 2012 Ford Escape SUV that had been used by acting Sheriff Barbara Deeley, who is retiring today.
One of those interviews where the Daily News gave him enough rope to hang himself...and then he keeps talking.

My god. That whole interview was surreal. Really hard to believe he is going to run the office any better with some of those mindsets.

Of course "running it better" is such a low bar that it is easy to trip over.

I would donate to have him removed from office and replaced by someone who is competent and would straighten out the mess in that department.

Hahaha he needs a brand new car because he "lives in the hood and someone might kidnap him and hold him hostage."

Please do. That would be a good way to be rid of the whole nonsense. Oh what? You have the sheriff hostage? Huh. Good luck with that, I hear he eats a lot.

Good for Nutter and his people for keeping this moron's hands at least a little out of the cookie jar.

I'm surprised that he doesn't require a driver since his hands were permanently injured.

It’s been more than two years since Democratic state Representative Jewell Williams had his run in with two Philadelphia police officers — an incident that injured the now sheriff-elect and became part of a civil rights lawsuit alleging police brutality. This week, Williams had his day in court — and won his case.

Now the city has to pay Williams $50,000. In the court’s decision, attorneys for the city agreed that Williams’ constitutional rights had been violated, but disagreed on the extent of his injuries. Williams said the injuries caused damage to a nerve that runs from his forearm to the base of the thumb. He said that he was unable to turn a door knob or open a jar without experiencing pain.

“Well, I never expected this settlement to be a huge amount of money, I never expected that. But I am pleased with the legal process and the court’s decision that these officers violated my civil rights,” Williams said, adding that the officers involved in his unlawful arrest placed the handcuffs on him too tightly — which has caused him permanent damage to his hands.

The sheriff's position in Philadelphia is a complete sinecure and needs to be abolished.

"I'm transporting inmates, murderers and rapists," Williams said, before we pointed out that his deputies drive inmates from court to jail in other, more secure vehicles.
Does the sheriff actually transport inmates in their car? It seems to me that this is what the deputies are for.

He doesn't transport anything but his own fat, greedy, pompous, self-entitled ass. The deputies transport and in the buses and vans which are secure.

It sounds like somebody needs to sit Jewell Williams down and explain his Sheriff duties.
No, you will not need to do high speed chases around Philadelphia. That's for the police.
No, you will not need to transport rapists and murderers. That's for your deputies.
No, we will not spend $$ to advertise your name on our sheriff dept. vehicles.

The arrogance of this guy is amazing.

Maybe. But, if this was John Street as Mayor, Jewell Williams would have his flashy SUV and his name littered all over the entire fleet of Sheriff vehicles.
Kudos to Nutter for smacking him down and putting him in his place.

Except he isn't a newbie. He has been an elected officer for years.

I actually think he meant that someone might kidnap him because they know he's in charge of transporting prisoners, and they would hold him hostage until their buddy was released.

Really, what would it matter? Then two criminals would be off the streets instead of just one - sounds like a bargain to me. Nutter should take away his car and give him a tricycle instead.

Glad to see his $50,000 injury hasn't impeded his ability to jerk off the taxpayers.

Talk about a bunch of parasites that we can't get rid of: Jewell, Milton and the new candidate, Jewel

    from Philly.com February 3, 2012/http://www.philly.com/philly/columnists/clout/20120203_Clout__Milt_tweaking_sheriff_.html

THERE IS AN equation in politics: Good news for one person is bad news for another.

Former state Sen. T. Milton Street Sr., fresh from federal prison last year when he challenged Mayor Nutter in the Democratic primary election, has dropped plans to run against state Rep. Michelle Brownlee for the 195th District seat representing the Strawberry Mansion, Powelton and Mantua area.

Street tells us that, instead, he will seek the vacant House seat in the 197th District, which stretches from North Philly to East Falls.

Jewell Williams left that seat last month to become sheriff.

Street says that Williams was "furious" this week to find him out collecting signatures in North Philly to get on the April 24 ballot.

"He had a seizure when he found out I was running," Street told us. "He pulled up in his car and jumped out and started yelling and screaming: 'Why are you running against my daughter?' "

Williams, it is widely speculated, hopes that his daughter Jewel Williams - with almost the same name as her father, but one less "l" - will win his old seat.

Harriet Lessy, a spokeswoman for the sheriff, said that he described the street-corner encounter with Street as a "nice chat."

"Jewell is well-known for not disrespecting his elders," Lessy said. "I guess [Street is] looking for some attention for his race."

    Zing and zing.

Daughter Jewel Williams didn't respond to our call or email to the parking authority, where she has worked in the auctions department since 2008.

Street, who has represented the 197th District before, hopes that his run against Nutter last year boosted his political brand. Street took 24 percent of the vote citywide last year. In the seven wards that make up the 197th, Nutter took 59 percent of the vote; Street 41 percent."

For the money he's receiving, he should drive his own dang vehicle. If he "lives in the 'hood and is afraid of being kidnapped," why would he want something as flashy as a Tahoe. Shouldn't he want a beat-up hooptie that attracts no attention to him? Fire this loser before he brings any more digrace upon the sheriff's department, if that's even possible.

He's certainly in a high speed pursuit of taxpayer money. I'm surprised this pompous ass doesn't want his name spelled out on vehicles in chipped diamonds.

Put these guys in charge of the sheriff's department. They couldn't possibly do a worse job than this clown and his predecessor:
