Again though, the amount of people that don't have their own car along the PA border is probably a small percentage. Yes, for the few people with your lifestyle, obviously traveling across the border for shopping doesn't make a lot of sense.

And it is the mobile shopper that is forcing a lot of the changes at the PLCB. If everyone was a captive audience like central PA, the PLCB would be even less responsive.

^^ yes, I've bought mixed six packs and even single bottles when I was brand new to the city...the sticker shock was enough for me to not make that mistake ever again.

I'm simply giving a personal example; the situation would be different for other folks, no doubt about it. I agree with your assessment. And actually, even for some people in the "captive audience" I bet booze is a luxury item; you make it pricey enough and people will simply change their buying habits. Even monopolies can't charge whatever they feel like it but only what the market will bear.

    Exactly my itinerary.

It hasn't really been cold but NJ pumping it for you is a plus when it's below 40.

I hope next year Turzai et al. keep trying with the privatization. I have never met a person in real life who liked the state store system. At best it is an embarrassing relic. I dream of a day when I can buy Gin and Tonic in the same store.

I like to mess with my out of state visitors with "go buy me a six-pack of Guinness, a case of lager and bottle of wine." Should be an easy trip, right?

Funny. The first time I went to California the supermarket had three litter sized bottles of tonic right next to the gin and vodka. It blew my mind.

The only people I know that support the State Store system are the ones who support unions first over everything else.

I think some people also don't want to give up the 500 million they say the PLCB contributes every year. It is really only 100 million or so after you account for sales and liquor taxes. The PA budget is around 30 billion a year, so that is only a third of one percent of the total budget. Of course, I assume that with privatization we will have more sales due to less border bleed and better hours (thanksgiving, Columbus Day, Flag day etc), so I would expect that gap to be closed.

Whoa whoa whoa!!! You cannot replace a Single Malt with a blended scotch and an Irish whiskey! You cray.

You could replace it with a nice Lagavulin or Laphroaig 12 year Single Malt though.

I can't believe I didn't catch this dreadful mistake earlier.

Union hacks primarily, with a smattering of abolitionists who see the state system as the lesser of two evils.

As well as the old fogeys who are either just stuck in the old ways or are against Demon Rum.

Seniors were more opposed - 31 percent favored privatization and 38 percent did not.

the rates on Tuesday nights, for example, are low enough I found it worthwhile. (Still do). Not for a bottle but a case at a time. Then while were down there we'll hit the target and go out for burgers.
