Default The new 7th congressional district is more R..

And No that R doesn't stand for Republican...

Getting to know the ridiculous new 7th congressional district | Philly | 12/15/2011

    Why?

District 7, represented by Patrick Meehan (R), takes the honor of having the eighth least compact congressional district in the nation. Of all the newly drawn congressional districts, it is the fifth least compact in the nation.

District 7 snakes its way through southeastern Pennsylvania in five counties. In some cases, the district is as narrow as 800 feet across. ... In a matter of seconds, you could drive in three separate congressional districts, without even speeding!

The current 7th district is 52.8 percent Democratic voters and 47.2 percent Republican, the new 7th district is 48.2 percent Democratic and 51.8 percent Republican.
And you thought that Philly redistricting process was crazy....

That's disgusting. My parents apparently live in that new "congressional" district.

Notice Nether Providence and Swarthmore are neatly carved out of the center of the district, which otherwise encompasses almost all of Western Delaware County, sans Chester. Of course, Nether Providence and indeed Swarthmore, are probably two of the most Democratic townships in Western Delaware County.

The only good news is that the suburbs continue to trend Democrat. What looks like a minor Republican edge now could be meaningless in just a few years, which calls to question why they even bother with the nonsense.

Gerrymandering should be illegal. Districts should only be composed of county units and that's it.
