    Default sattelite dish inspections?

I just got the following email from Dish Network. Anyone have any further insights?

    Dear Valued Customer:

The Philadelphia City Council is considering a bill (Bill No. 100200) that would require satellite customers in the city to get their satellite dish inspected and even removed if they decide it's necessary. You may even have to get a certification from the city's Licensing & Inspections department just to keep your satellite TV service.

More paperwork? City inspectors knocking on your door demanding to see your dish, even taking it away? Is this really what we need now?

The families of the city of Philadelphia are going through enough in these hard economic times. More bureaucratic forms and going into families homes inspecting dishes and taking away satellite dishes will not help jobs or quality of life.

Click HERE to tell your city council member you don't want L & I taking away your dish and to oppose Bill No. 100200.

Please don't wait! They may vote on this as early as this week. Your voice can make the difference!

If the link does not direct you to the correct page, please copy & paste the link below into your browser: Stop Satellite Tax Now!

    Default Dish inspections

I wonder if having Comcast headquartered so close to City Hall has anyting to do with it? I would raise a stink regarding ethical misconduct by Comcast. I don't recall issues when all the tap rooms first installed the towers to pull in the NYC games. Those were structural threats.

Regarding DTV accounts in the po' section, as recently as the early '70's I recall social workers writing up clients who had telephones. Sorries included phones ringing in desks and clothes dressers.

It probably has more to do with the satellite dishes hanging off the sides of all the Section 8 and PHA properties that look like they're held on with some bubble gum and twine ready to fall on someone's head.

Oh...and the fact that they HAVE sattelite while living in a section 8 housing.... that alone should be reason to make them remove them!

The dishes are nothing. Take a look at the cars around them. If you're in Section 8 or subsidized housing of any sort and your vehicle is on 22's, you should get booted on the spot.

I received this email from Dish Network as well regarding satellite dish inspection. I figured it was yet another ploy by the city to rake in some more funds.

Exactly. They will charge a fee That will be rolled into your monthly bill, and inspectors will never be around.

Who is Comcast paying off for this stunt?
I'm just happy to be free of all pay-tv, and the 200+ bad channels. Horrible reality shows LOADED with commercials. Who the frig wants to pay for that ?

Agree. We're almost there. I considered doing the whole laptop-hookup to the tv, but do I really want the internet companies collecting what I watch on TV, too! Aggregate it with all my other online activity into my 'profile'? Just another reason to get off the grid. And no longer the power grid, but the monitoring grid.

Did you see the Inquirer front page article about the cozy relationship that Comcast and it's legal team has with the current administration? It's no surprise if Comcast really has someething to do with this. Though I can see the point about the dishes being a safety hazard.

I've been using the convertor box and bunny ears for the past 2 years... I don't watch enough to watch\am not home enough to watch tv enought to justify paying 150 bucks a month for a bunch of ****ty reality shows. Although this roku thing sounds like something I may go for, but that would be about all I need. The only thing I miss is Comcast Sportsnet for the Phils and Flyers... but first, I work nights for now, so no loss there.. and when I'm not working nights, I have a bar 15 feet away from me that I can enjoy watching with friends! I have never really noticed too many dishes that looked like they were about to come off, then again, I had DirectTv when I first bought the house, and mine is bolted to a small roof on my second floor, facing the back.. I guess they all have to point to the South? I noticed everyone on my side of the block has them on the back, opposite side has them on the front.

I didn't read the bill, but is it "satellite customers" or any building with a dish on it ? I haven't been a "satellite customer" in years.

What are you against job creation ?
    L & I inspectors
    Paper Pushers
Courts if you do not comply
    court staffing

The 30 dollars a month you now pay in taxes is not enough revenue for what they do to protect you now.( pls. look at your bill)
Lawyers in case one falls on your head, (Who is responsible (after all , don't we live in a era of no accountability)
The integrity of L&I might be in question. and city ethics ,. (don't you believe govt is only here to help), it is not enough.
    This is a great plan.

Why pay a fee when you can just "tip" the inspector?

That's great if you can get away with it.

and guess who paid for it all
    taxpayers
