He apparently hasn't submitted a candidate profile to the Committee of Seventy. Not sure how many people vote based on those profiles, but it seems like it shouldn't take all that long to write one, and every little bit counts as evidenced by David Oh's last campaign.

    Committee of Seventy: City Commissioners
Welcome to Philadelphia. Here's how you can help us make our great city even better:

    * Write to your elected officials
    * Report suspicious activity to the police department
    * Is there an abandoned/nuisance property in your neighborhood? See if it is tax delinquent. If so, maybe you can force it to go to sheriff's sale.

Schmidt's racking up the endorsements- Inquirer, Daily News, Fire Fighters Union, Senator Toomey. What's the incumbents name again? Is he even alive?

Schmidt, a former federal auditor who took a run at the city controller's post two years ago, is smart and principled, and his experience in routing out waste would hold him in good stead in the commissioner's office.

Add another one. I just took this from Brett Mandel's monthly newsletter.

    City Commissioner

In Philadelphia, we elect three City Commissioners (the folks who run city elections). Candidates for City Commissioner who commit to taking the politics out of running elections include (voters can cast two votes):

    Stephanie Singer (D)
    Bernard (Blair) Talmadge (D)
    Al Schmidt (R)

The incumbent is definitely alive, and sent me a letter and postcard in the mail. It talked about how involved he's been with making sure there are fair elections in Philly, or something like that. It all sounded great (assuming you don't know better). Only problem I saw was that he looked like Dracula in his photo. I hope for Schmidt's sake he can with by enough votes that the Commissioners' office can't make up the difference with absentee ballots of some sort.

If you're registered Republican, and care about fair elections, please vote for Al. Even if you vote for no other race, please vote for City Commissioner.

I got that letter that was full of deceit and lies.

Yes! This can not be stressed enough. Vote for Al and only Al for City Commissioner. You can vote for 2 but that could cancel his vote out.

Al Schmidt Doesn't Need Republicans to Win This Election | News and Opinion | Philadelphia Weekly

In the meantime, he grapples with the narcissistic requirements of the campaign. “Everything is the opposite of how your parents raised you—to not brag, not talk about yourself and not ask for money,” Schmidt says, glossing over the irony that those are skills most politicians excel at. “It’s never comfortable unless there’s something wrong with you.”

    From the ABC link-

But Republican incumbent Frank Duda defended the office.

"I'm in the 66th ward. There are 46 divisions. We never have any trouble," said City Commissioner Frank Duda. "I've asked different wards, we don't have any trouble."

I wanted to congratulate Adam for the letter he wrote in today's Inquirer. I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments of that letter and I am excited that this city is moving forward to an era of greater transparency and of city government serving the public at large and not those in control of the levers of power.

Same here - it's good news and Adam was right to speak up in that public forum.
