L&I’s Contractor License Search lets you find all City-licensed professionals in Philadelphia. Don’t hire someone if they’re not on L&I’s list:

(The state also does it too… home improvement contractors are found at hicsearch.attorneygeneral.gov)

I dont know if I am missing something but I cannot find a search function for that list. To find a contractor you need to go through over 3000 names.

All that's required to become a licenced contractor in Philadelphia is a BPT number and proof of liability insurance. I'm not sure how that makes someone "legit". Neither one of those things insures that the contractor is any good.
