    Default Insulation contractor?

Hi, all. Can someone recommend a contractor to put blow-in insulation in a row house? Any thoughts on spray foam vs. cellulose? What did you do and would you recommend that company?

Also check out the Mark Group (markgroupusa.com). They're the US subsidiary of the UK's largest insulation contractor and have been working with all of the Delaware Valley weatherization programs for the last couple of years in addition to their private work.

What you have to watch out for in a lot of Philly homes is knob and tube wiring. It shouldn't come in direct contact with cellulose or foam insulation, so make sure whomever you hires checks for it first and takes appropriate steps to isolate it if they find it.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm having a guy come out to give me a quote on spray foam insulation. I like that it adds sound dampening too. My next door neighbor has noisy kids. I probably would only insulate the exterior walls if not for that.

Hey Winston I'm not entirely sure where you are in your process but if you haven't found someone to do insulation, I'd recommend going through Owens Corning and using one of their certified contractors to install EnergyComplete. EnergyComplete does a good job of keeping energy bills down and also does a good job on noise as well. It's one of the top brands of insulation around and is also offers great value. Here's the link to the page, Owens Corning. I hope this helps and good luck.

    Hi Winston,

How did you make out with your spray foam consultation? If you did not yet move forward with the work, Mark Group offers FREE home energy assessments (Philadelphia Energy Audits and Assessments | NJ, DE and PA Home Insulation and Solar Panel Installers and Analysis). I would be happy to set something up for you! If you've installed your energy efficiency home improvement, I hope you are already seeing the results of increased room-to-room comfort and savings.

    Have a great day,

i used the Mark Group last summer and they were wonderful to work with and did a great job.

Are you in the city? if so, have you considered having an energy audit. There is an initial fee, but if you have work done to address the issues found it is refunded.

Get a Comprehensive Home Energy Assessment for $150! Reduced from $400! | Energy Coordinating Agency

I had my energy audit performed by Eric Lowry (Lowry Eco - About Us) and then the Mark Group did the work.
