Default Water heater help...pilot lit but burner won't ligt...

my basement flooded (about 5" of water) and the pilot went out. I relit the pilot but i don't think the burner is lighting. according to my manual it is the combustion shutoff system and that i have to contact someone to fix it. is it possible (and safe) to do this myself?

Without seeing the actual unit, or lacking a model number, it's hard to say. Some are easier than others. If in doubt, it's best to refer to a qualified plumber.

Most likely the main burner is flooded. Somehow the pilot burner was able to clear, but not the main burner. You should blow through the burner tube until you blow the water out. Normally the pressure of the gas is enough to accomplish this, but sometimes it isn't.
