Default How to secure a tree pit grate

Curious if anyone has had tree pit grates made and more specifically, how they were secured to prevent cut/removal?

Should I box out each leg/corner and pour cement (and to what depth?), or can I have a piece welded that can then be screwed into the sidewalk slab along the 4" pit edge?

Any ideas welcomed; overheard the local scrap man's phone call this AM stating he needed a saw to remove one of mine (he was on the opposite side to my garden fence, not realizing I was less than 5' from him).

Hook up some copper wires to it and an electric socket. That'll learn him.

Bolt it into the concrete and strip the bolt heads.
