Try the poison ivy, and when the owner pets them they get it too![]()
Basically, it's the salts, ammonia, and nitrogen that cause the problem. Extra watering to leach the ammonia salts, lime to neutralize the acid, and if that doesn't help, try a repellent with tobacco dust as the active ingredient.
chili pepper powder sprinkled around the area will help repel all dogs.

We put some of those decorative wire fencing panels (from Lowes) around ours to help keep the pests out.

any plants that seem to be hardier to the slings and arrows of street life?
we have some green and white ivy out front that gets peed on about 100 times a day and still lives. It's in a pot is too high to pee on, but they get the leaves pretty good. I think Braveheart and the others are onto something. It has to be bushy/thorny/high enough that they can't pee right on the roots?
I have a bunch of daylilies planted between my sidewalk and the road, and they hold up well. My own dog pees on them all of the time, let alone the dogs I don't see during the day.
