I had some tenants that kept the litter box in the basement, but apparently they didn't change the litter for like 6 months.

I ended up vacuuming the hell out of it with a wet dry vac. Then put on a rain slicker and powerwashed everything in the basement. Another round with the wet dry vac and a couple weeks of drying got rid of the smell.

After two weeks, not only was the smell gone, but the spots in the hardwood were gone. It really was a miracle. They sell it at Petsmart. Just know that it will smell strong for about a week while the enzymes are doing their thing. I think a lot of people start using it then stop because of that.
I have an older cat that unfortunately found a corner of our rug in the guest room that she likes better than the litter box. Had her to a vet seems to be behavior and getting old issue. Anyway, I just tried Nature's Miracle glad I read your post and wish they said the same thing on the bottle! I'm thinking I might try to find a black light too just in case there is anything I missed in the room.

Just and FYI. Enzyme type cat odor removers will work best so long as the product is kept active. Which means wet. I have placed the product and then covered it on plastic to slow evaporation thus allowing the product time to work.

Thanks for the information about Odercide...it really worked! The best thing about it is that unlike enxymatic cleaners is that there is no "waiting period" while the product does its job. You spray the stuff on, and the oder really is gone. I tried Nature's Miracle and hates the way that the cat urine smell was overwhelming for a week.

The people at Schaper's were very helpful.

Would odercide work on cat-peed-on asbestos tile on basement cement floor? The cats haven't been super destructive over the years, but I'm sure I am used to it and it definitely gets pretty rank with increased humidity. My instinct it to flood the floor area where their boxes sit with some cleaner and let it sink in. They have not used the whole cellar as their box, but one periodically tells me the boxes are not to her liking by peeing next to it, and even though it's just one cat and infrequent, over time, it's pretty rank.

I am looking for suggestions on how to STOP the cat peeing outside the litter box. He seems to have picked a corner to pee in near my back door and will not stop and it is overwhelming. The cat is 9 and after a physical with vet there are no physical issues although he is a little over weight. I bought a calming dipenser thingamy to decrease his stress but he continues to do it. I am at the end of my rope due to smell, young kids in house etc.
