Default Thomas Jefferson statue in Philadelphia?

    Hi All,

I'm working on a research project and I hear mention of a statue of Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia that I'd like to include in my research. Searching on the Internet and casually walking around looking has thus far proven fruitless. I looked around Independence Hall and around Jeff already, but I haven't seen anything.

Does anyone know where a statue of Jefferson might reside in Philadelphia?

HAHAHAHA! Crap-sorry, I was thinking of someone else once I looked it up for you.

Well, there's one in the constitution center. I think there's one in the PECO tourist center thing at 6th and chestnut. Not to sound dumb but I'd imagine there's one at Jefferson Hospital somewhere. Were you looking for a specific one?

Apparently, there's one with an astrological glyph at the base of it. Someone has cited it as a reference and I'm trying to figure out if it is extant or not.

No offense, but from your sources are you positive that it was a Jefferson statue? People misname sculptures all the time around here. Some think that Jefferson is in front of Independence Hall. Others think Franklin is on top of our city hall. Things get misrepresented all the time. Was there any further description on this statue?

Check with Fairmount Park - they have an online link with the "park" sculptures.

hmm most likely you will have one in the National Constitution Center, since they have sculptures/busts of all the signers. They would have to have Tom's bust in there. In fact, I feel certain they have one.

this one's supposed to be on Jeff's campus but I've walked around there and never noticed it. the image was taken in 2005 so perhaps it's no longer there?

the base of it has some etchings but can't really make out whether that's anything relevant.

That's a website designer doing a really bad job and no one noticed-that statue is in Chicago.

Actually, I think it's in Virginia. Hard to read, but I think the sign in back says "Zehmer Hall", which is on the U of V campus.

I think you are correct. This statue seems to have been duplicated numerous times, with a varying base. It is also at Jefferson Park Transit Stop in Chicago, and here is a picture of it in SD...

In any case, it's sort of silly that it's used on the jefferson.edu website :-/

Yeah it's all over. Since TJU doesn't seem to have a Jefferson statue, they should get a cast too.

HA! Everyone knows it's really Phillip A. Adelphia, founder of our city (there used to be a cable company named after him too!)
