The idea of a Penn Treaty Museum was put forth in 1970 by Dr. Etta May Pettyjohn, Principal of Kensington High. Her ambitious plans called for rebuilding Fairman's Mansion and acquiring more land for Penn Treaty Park. The Park was succesfully expanded in 1987 to it's current size and the Museum was set up to be a virtual Museum,Penn Treaty Museum.
Over the years the collection has grown and contains a number of unique items like a Tea Caddy made by Richard Jordan from wood of the Treaty Elm Tree.
All are welcome to view the collection next Saturday.

One of the earliest efforts for historical preservation in Philadelphia occurred in the spring of 1810. The Treaty Elm fell in a storm on March 5, 1810 and the owners of the land along the Delaware River took a scion of the fallen Treaty Elm and planted it at Pennsylvania Hospital. Years went by and concern grew that the location of the Treaty of Friendship would be forgotten because the venerable old Elm no longer marked the location. Roberts Vaux and others from the Penn Society in 1827 raised funds and placed an Obelisk on the Vandusens property to preserve the location site.

The Penn Treaty Museum welcomes all to attend the ceremonies March 12, 2012 and view the collection.

During the American Revolution lt. Col. Simcoe sent guards to protect the Treaty Elm. He told this story years later after the war to Benjamin West. Elm wood was used for wagon wheels and fence posts. Simcoe is a founder of Toronto and is honored with a holiday every August. The Treaty of Friendship is filled with stories over the past 330 years and the collection attempts to share with others. We only open on special events and Saturday is a special day for Penn Treaty.

We welcome those interested in History to visit the collection of the Penn Treaty Museum. We display the collection only on special occasions and Saturday is a special day for Penn Treaty. The ceremony at Penn Treaty Park starting at noon will be followed with a two hour open exhibit of the collection.
We recently acquired 1824 Kerchief printed for the return of General Lafayette with the image of Penn's Treaty made by the Germantown Print Works.
The Treaty of Friendship is a 330 year old story that has been passed down from generation to generation memorialized in art, poetry, ephemera, textiles, scions of the original Treaty tree and stories.
We welcome you to visit Penn Treaty Park this Saturday and walk across Delaware Ave. and view the collection.

Like a true politician. Ignore and don't mention any other names. What's wrong with you?!?! Why do you rape neighborhoods?! I think that the neighbors you ignore should start looking into this cloak and dagger group that has no face or concern for the actual folks who live here. Does anyone know if we can get city council to get Homeland Security into this to make sure these yahoos aren't something rogue?!?!
