Joseph Pennell and his wife Elizabeth were notorious for hating the modern world - their book Our Philadelphia largely focusses on how the modern world ruined their pure hometown.
I have that book never put two and two together, thanks.

Poster circulated in Philadelphia in 1839 to discourage the coming of the railroad. It reads in part: "Philadelphians, your RIGHTS are being invaded! regardless of your interests or the LIVES OF YOUR LITTLE ONES. THE CAMDEN AND AMBOY with the assistance of other companies without a Charter, and in VIOLATION OF LAW as decreed by your Courts, are laying a LOCOMOTIVE RAILROAD! RALLY PEOPLE in the Majesty of your Strength and forbid THIS OUTRAGE!"
That is one fantastic poster - Many thanks for this! " do you consent to be a Suburb of New York " !
Saint Edward the Confessor Church 8th and York Streets (1906 – 1993). Still standing as the Highway Temple of Deliverance, 2401 N. Eighth Street.
Architect: George Ashdown Audsley who also designed Saint Joan of Arc School in Harrowgate and the Wanamaker Organ.
Such an awesome building - so sad to see its interior stripped.
I have not been there. Is it stripped or did it get put behind plaster board. The description in the bio says that it is an almost perfect copy of a St Margaret's Church in Liverpool thirty years prior which I do not know if it is still standing. But the interior was brick if I recall.
The interior is polychromatic brick - zig zags, stripes, all sorts of designs in the multi-colored brick so that remained unless it was painted over which happens often with such design. But the enormous furnishings (altars, shrines) were amazingly elaborate and impressive - the space is literally awesome - and everything was taken out of it when it was sold. A real tragedy.
