Wow. I can't believe how run down this block was in 1942.

It might not be that run down. The first bldg. on the right had a fire, you can see the smoke traces above one of the windows. The other bldg. is only missing two windows. Maybe they were going to be replaced later that day. The car there looks late model for 1942. We don't really know the story just from this photo.

Since it's an even numbered house, I assume we're facing the south side of Lombard. So was Lombard an eastbound street in 1942, or was it a two-way street?

Chiosso..It is not you, apparantly Temples Digital diamond went to some kind of changing photo location identifier, so that if you use the location identifier that is on when viewing the photo then paste it on this site, after a while the identifier changes and the photo will not show up. Not sure why they would do this as these are low res photos anyway. That is one of the reasons I always include the url when I post a photo. You can click on the URL and it would be the third photo. then click on the photo.

It turns out that this block really was run down. This photo shows 2524 Lombard as abandoned and it probably proved to be an attractive nuisance to the local kids who started a fire there shortly after the photo was taken. (compare this photo with the 1942 photo)

    This is the 1941 photo.

    This it the 1942 photo.

The burned out bldg. in the 41 photo is the bldg. that is only missing the top windows in the 1942 photo. So there was some renovation in a year. We can tell because of the telephone pole and the placement of the doors of the burned out home and the home next to it.
