I remember this handsome colonial looking period house from my childhood, Sunday drives in the country back then. Does it have any history attached to it to speak of?

Lovely house. Probably built around 1785. I was unable to find a provenance for the house but at least it's still standing.

Thanks for your efforts Swinefeld. No doubt one family over many generations still owns the property, otherwise I think it would be a 7-11 by now.

Just think, something like this could be on Sixth and Market now instead of that hideous piece of shiite that's there now.

For all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these "it might have been."

Have not been there yet but have seen the photos. Site reminds me of a half eaten box of Whitman's Chocolates, the good stuff missing, and teeth marks left on the remaining nougats and caramels. How do you spell "Eyesore"?

Anybody remember the old REA Express green trucks with a red diamond REA (Railway Express Agency) superimposed on a big "X"? They went out of business in 1975 and were a precursor of UPS.

Never mind the REA Express trucks, I still remember the Radio 437 Store, behind the REA truck, bought a lot of electronic parts there. Then they moved to Chestnut street, but were never the same..

I believe Harry's Cafe is now The Handle Bar 1102 Fkd.Ave., a "dive" bar, that does not necessarily like to cater to the "new" crowd. It is amazing to see the old ones, the buildings, that survive the ever changing urban landscape. Love the Pontiac.
