So they are permitted to routinely release radiation into nearby creeks and rivers?

News to me too. If I'm reading this right, the discharges of slightly radioactive water to the river is standard approved operating procedure. The only thing that made it news was that some of the water overflowed through a manhole cover onto the plant grounds and that water had a higher concentration of radioactive particles since it hadn't yet reached the stream, where it would be diluted by that stream to permissible levels.

Releasing water that has had no physical contact to the core back into streams, albeit with a slightly elevated radiation level, is SOP. In order for it to be permissible it needs to exist or be diluted to levels that somewhat resemble your regular background radiation levels, though I don't know the actual levels. While no levels are "Safe" (so there are elevated risks for sure), it's a somewhat intellectually irresponsible argument that NO radiation can be allowed to exist as indirect runoff, when even when domiciling close to the plant you will get more radiation from other well-known other sources of radiation, such as bananas, TV's, airplanes, and in many cases, the friggin earth. I know there was an XKCD that showed some common radiation exposures that was surprisingly good.

So, when they published that report a year or so ago that concluded that elevated radiation levels came from cancer patients urine that flowed from the sewage system into the Schuylkhill, that was just nonsense?

No, but that was different radiation (iodine, iirc.. this is tritium aka H3).

While I think xkcd is almost always good, this one was one of their most informative as well: http://xkcd.com/radiation/

I always wondered what they do with the water when the turbine is flushed. The Limerick plant has had a turbine changeout (it was shown on a documentary on the Discovery channel). Thing has gotta be flushed before its cracked open to pull the rotor out.

Your posts make no sense. I'm sure there is some truth in each one, but each one I read is full of weird spacing and punctuation and a jumble of words that lack coherence, so lolwut indeed.

yeah, a transformer blew on the non-nuclear side of the plant causing the generator cooling systems to go down so the plant was manually shut down. sounds like very thing worked as it should have!
