Default Vitamin D and Tumeric Prevents Alzheimer's Disease

Taking vitamin D and the spice tumeric or curry (that contains tumeric) clears the brain of toxic amyloid beta plaque. This will prevent Alzheimer's disease. The phytochemical in the tumeric that does this is curcumin.

The article says that vitamin D will due this by itself. But according to the MD who wrote the book Anticancer, tumeric is one of the best anti-inflammatory foods that there is. This means that it can help reduce and prevent lifestyle (not genetic) diseases like Alzheimer's disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes and arthritis.

To take this supplement and spice will cost you less than 6 cents a day. In other kind of related news (or not) Mark Zuckerberg is 10,000 days old today. Happy 10,000th Day, Mark! Hurry and get your curry.

If you click on the link about other things that vitamin D does, it says that it can help prevent the common or uncommon flu. An easy test to see if you are starting to get Alzheimer's disease is to draw a clock from memory and see if you can do it accurately.

It is a shame that there is no supplement to help with being mean, nasty and unpleasant. "Misery loves company."

I think it's meaner to try to profit from desperate people with Alzheimer's and cancer than it is to sling insults on an internet forum.

Agree with HKP. Mean is providing false hope. Some of us, Chuck, have watched loved ones die of cancer. Your ridiculous claims demean their efforts to survive.

If your mother gave you vitamin D-rich cod liver oil when you were a child, she may have been way ahead of her time.

A new animal study from Japan suggests that vitamin D may help clear the brain of amyloid beta, a toxic protein-like compound that accumulates in the brains of Alzheimer's patients.

    Human Research Support
This animal study validates the results of a previous study done in human Alzheimer's patients. In the human study, vitamin D together with curcumin -- a chemical found in turmeric spice -- appeared to stimulate the immune system in a way that helped clear the brain of toxic amyloid beta. But this new animal research suggests that vitamin D alone may be able to do that job nicely. Even more amazing, the lab animals that received vitamin D were able to remove a significant amount of amyloid beta buildup in their brains, literally overnight. It seems the vitamin may somehow regulate production of transporter proteins that ferry amyloid beta across the blood-brain barrier and out of the brain. Pretty exciting stuff. (Related: Here's another great health reason to get plenty of vitamin D.)

Many grown-ups lack vitamin D -- especially in the winter months. Are you ready to make sure you get your fill? Try these strategies:

Go fishing. Canned salmon supplies a whopping 530 international units (IU) of vitamin D for each 3-ounce serving. Or open the canned tuna for 360 IU of vitamin D from a 3-ounce serving. (Related: Vitamin D may also be good for your heart.)

Seek fortification. Grab the orange juice that's been fortified with vitamin D and you'll add an additional 100 IU of the sunshine vitamin to your day with each cup you drink. (Related: Find out how OJ boosts your immunity.)

Crack an egg. If you like scrambled eggs, you'll garner 20–26 IU of vitamin D per large egg. (Related: Eating eggs could help you lose weight, too.)

Did you know? Vitamin D is vital for your frame, too. Find out whether you're at risk for weak bones.

    RealAge Benefit

Getting 400 international units of vitamin D and 1,200 milligrams of calcium per day can make your RealAge as much as 1.3 years younger. Take the RealAge Test!

so basically the article is saying take a walk in the sun and eat an egg so you might limit your risk for alzheimers.

but really, selling supplements' to cure cancer. if that was the real deal wouldn't we all know it?

sounds like taking advantage of people who are suffering.

Like! (since there is no like button)

With hundreds of supplements on the market, there could be effective treatments available OTC not currently recognized. However, people wary of modern medicine should keep in mind that ~40% of all drugs come from plant derivatives (ie: natural).

LOL @ 'filthpig'....but seriously, there are quite a few people who seem to subscribe to this philosophy....that vitimans, nutrients, and whole foods will prevent and even help arrest / cure a lot of ailments, ESP heart disease, obesity, and some forms of cancer. Me, I think it's a bit of a stretch, but, hey. To each his own:/

I think many reasons exist behind this phenomenon. I find it funny when people talk about the greed of big pharma and how they dictate the market of medical care and treatment. Why? Because vitamin and supplement companies do the same type of wining and dining that people cried afoul over with the pharma companies. It just seems illogical to crack down hard on pharma for such behavior but let their alternative treatment competition continue with such tactics.

I would also like to see it required that before a company markets an alternative treatment, they have clinical trials to backup their claims. For example: want to say that goldenseal helps cure the cold, then offer evidence for it, and tell me what I should avoid taking if I take goldenseal, etc. Further, I would like government regulation to ensure that when a company says it is giving me a compound (ie- goldenseal), it is in fact that compound. I have absolutely no problem with an alternative effective treatment, but right now very lax standards with no requirement of proven efficacy put the consumer at risk--all of which comes at the benefit of the pill maker.

I would agree, they (government) should have regulations on supplements, and there should be clinical trials to prove that they are in fact as effective as they claim. You probably won't see that any time soon, though

Chuck - you are really a clueless wonder. My mother has Alz and believe me, if I had found any *real* research that turmeric cured this f'ing disease I would be tossing it down her throat. You're just a shyster preying on people's hopes and fears. There are none lower than you.

    Chuck,

I need help with some medical advice. My mom always told me if I masturbate, I'll go blind. If I rub turmeric on it, will that prevent problems with my sight?

Let's keep it civil, folks. I know that it is frustrating when someone continuously spews false information, but direct attacks on him are beneath both of you. Let's keep this fun and not drop to a lower level.

Use cayenne pepper for that. dilute it with 1 part bleach for every 2 parts pepper. Adjust pepper quantity to make paste consistency.
