Default Princeton researchers find that high-fructose corn syrup prompts considerably more weight gain

    Surprise....

Time to turn the screws on the corn subsidies!

A Princeton University research team has demonstrated that all sweeteners are not equal when it comes to weight gain: Rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup gained significantly more weight than those with access to table sugar, even when their overall caloric intake was the same.

In addition to causing significant weight gain in lab animals, long-term consumption of high-fructose corn syrup also led to abnormal increases in body fat, especially in the abdomen, and a rise in circulating blood fats called triglycerides. The researchers say the work sheds light on the factors contributing to obesity trends in the United States.

"Some people have claimed that high-fructose corn syrup is no different than other sweeteners when it comes to weight gain and obesity, but our results make it clear that this just isn't true, at least under the conditions of our tests," said psychology professor Bart Hoebel, who specializes in the neuroscience of appetite, weight and sugar addiction. "When rats are drinking high-fructose corn syrup at levels well below those in soda pop, they're becoming obese -- every single one, across the board. Even when rats are fed a high-fat diet, you don't see this; they don't all gain extra weight."

...by turning them into high fructose corn syrup. Puree pesky scientist, add a dash of fermented corn, some red dye #2, and bingo...you've got tropical punch soda.

    Actually HFC is already "eaten"

    A dirty explanation is:

They feed corn to enzymes and you eat the processed ****.

High-fructose corn syrup is produced by milling corn to produce corn starch, then processing that starch to yield corn syrup, which is almost entirely glucose, and then adding enzymes that change most of the glucose into fructose. The resulting syrup (after enzyme conversion) contains approximately 90% fructose and is HFCS 90. To make the other common forms of HFCS (HFCS 55 and HFCS 42) the HFCS 90 is mixed with 100% glucose corn syrup in the appropriate ratios to form the desired HFCS. The enzyme process that changes the 100% glucose corn syrup into HFCS 90 is as follows:

    1. Cornstarch is treated with alpha-amylase to produce shorter chains of sugars called oligosaccharides.
    2. Glucoamylase - which is produced by Aspergillus, a fungus, in a fermentation vat — breaks the sugar chains down even further to yield the simple sugar glucose.
    3. Xylose isomerase (aka glucose isomerase) converts glucose to a mixture of about 42% fructose and 50–52% glucose with some other sugars mixed in.

While inexpensive alpha-amylase and glucoamylase are added directly to the slurry and used only once, the more costly glucose-isomerase is packed into columns and the sugar mixture is then passed over it, allowing it to be used repeatedly until it loses its activity. This 42–43% fructose glucose mixture is then subjected to a liquid chromatography step, where the fructose is enriched to about 90%. The 90% fructose is then back-blended with 42% fructose to achieve a 55% fructose final product. Most manufacturers use carbon absorption for impurity removal. Numerous filtration, ion-exchange and evaporation steps are also part of the overall process.

If you look at food labels, you will see that HFCS is the most popular sweetener nowadays. So this means that is is the worst. For example today's tobacco with additives is more addictive than previous tobacco due to additives. The goal is to make it more addictive. The most brilliant chemists in the world are right now researching how to make tobacco even more addictive so it will be almost impossible to stop smoking.

It is the same goal of food companies-- to make food more addictive and more fattening. Fat people eat more than thin people. Also the food companies have a lot of stock in the drug companies also. So fat and sick people are good for the economy. People like me are bad for the economy. I am thin and to make it worse for the economy I also fast where I consume only water for weeks.

Last month I did buy a new computer with Windows 7, 2GB RAM, 2.8 GHz dual core and 320 GB hard drive so I do buy other things. Two weeks ago I did buy a 1 ounce 99.9% silver 2010 panda coin and I will be buying more tomorrow since the 2009 panda coins sold out in April 2009. So I like buying money with my money. Note that an ounce of silver weighs more than an ounce of lead or an ounce of feathers. Precious metals are always measured in troy ounces that are heavier than ounces (advoirdupois). A pound of lead is heavier than a pound of gold that is only 12 ounces.

Do fat people eat more? They had on TV a guy that weighed over 400 pounds. He said that for dinner he will eat 2 large pizzas and also many cheesburgers, chicken breasts, chicken wings and other things. After listing all these things, he said "and then there is dessert."

I try to avoid processed foods, though I do snack on no-salt pretzels. Recently I got a little worried about the sodium content in ketchup. I checked out the nutritional information on a bottle I had in the fridge, and way before I got to the sodium, the second and third ingredients, behind tomatoes, were high fructose something and corn syrup. I read nutritional labels really, really carefully. The same thing happened with "REDUCED FAT" (that's what it said in banner letters across the label) peanut butter. I didn't even have to check the ingredients. I could taste the fructose. Now I only buy peanut butter that states clearly, peanuts and oil. That's it.

I try not to eat things they store in big tanks on the train tracks by my house.

I also try not to eat things other things already ate.

I mean HFCS is pretty much digested corn.
