    Benedict is a conservative. His predecessor was a conservative.

    I'm sure that Benedict's health was a factor in his decision. However, I'm going to guess that he thought he might be better able to influence the choice of a successor alive than dead -- and, thereby, keep the church from becoming "relevant," i.e., anything other than conservative.

    You're right, he's not resigning due to age, he's resigning for health reasons (due to age).

    But most truly holy men live through their old age and illness by way of Faith, not some doctors report. Something's not right here.
