Opposing Views: Hypocrite: Mexican President Rips Arizona Immigration Law
Except it's not true. There's a cool little fishing town on the west coast an hour north of Puerto Vallarta called Sayulita. Well, it was a cool little fishing village, now it's becoming something of a tourist hot spot thanks to a new highway. But it's not new to Americans. There are thousands of expat retired Amerricans who have moved down there and bought property. I've met many of them. Some don't speak any Spanish, and didn't legally immigrate. In fact, there's a small colony of younger Americans who live in a campground by the beach, sell arts and crafts or give surfing lessons, take people on fishing trips, etc. all illegally and under the table.
No one arrests them. In fact, the local community, businesses and politicians welcome them.
What's sad is that I bet 90% of the people that reads that (it's the kind of thing that gets forwarded to death) will just believe it, and (obviously) get fired up and upset.
I don't have the time nor really the will to check those "laws" further, but all of them are "rephrased" for shock value to the point of almost distorting it's original purpose, most are meant for VISA holders and some I don't even think they're real.
Starting with :
(1) You immigrate to our country you have to speak the native language;
(5) No government business will be conducted in your language;
from wikipedia (again, don't have the time nor the will to actually search Mexico's Laws):
What's more they do recognize 63 indigenous languages.Spanish is the de facto language spoken by the vast majority of Mexicans, though the Mexican government does not legislate it as an official language.
Anyhow, there's no 'language test" when you request a VISA (first step towards immigration)
(6) Foreigners cannot vote or hold political office;
well duh!, show me a country that doesn't have this law, in order to vote or hold office you have to stop being a foreigner and become a citizen.
(2) You must be a professional or an investor...no unskilled workers allowed;
and how are the laws to immigrate here different than this one?.....
(9) If you want to buy land, it will be restricted....no waterfront properties and you have to relinquish individual rights to the property;
Not sure about this one, but seems valid from a sovereign point of view and there must be an equal law in the US, you wouldn't want Saudis or Chinese or Russians buying Alaska piece by piece.
well, gotta go back to work....

Maybe we should help Mexico build a wall on its boarders so that people won't go through Mexico on there way here.
Goodnight Rossana Arquette whereever you are.
As to hypocrisy we are open to Cubans washing up on shore but not Haitians.
Goodnight Rossana Arquette whereever you are.
