Where I grew up, people knew everyone else....so there was no need to put cones, trash cans, recliners etc in spots to 'reserve' the space you cleared. The rule was: you park in the spot you cleared. There were never any issues.
On day 1, I personally wont park in spot someone cleared, even if someone took the spot I cleared. On day 2 or 3, the parking is usually back to normal so its all fair game to me. Worst case, on day 1, if someone takes the spot I cleared I will drive 2 block away and park on the street that is always empty.
In a storm like this, you must respect the work done to dig out a car. It's against the law to block any parking spot with household items. If everthing is back to normal in a couple days all bets are off. We should be hearing of a murder or 2 over this, and a few beatings.
back in my Philly days it was dog eat dog. Dig yourself out and put a chair in its spot otherwise its gone the instant you pulled out. Some moron neighbors kept the chair in the spot for weeks, reserving they spot way part when the snow was around.. Horrible way to live.. I hated it
honest to God. My next door neighbors wanted a spot in front of their house so much this is what they did..
Snow was long gone and every day when I got home from work there was they folding chair in from of MY house..(cause we were adjoining homes)

I see two spots on my block with chairs and they are nowhere near mine so....
I never put chairs out....because I can easily park my SUV wherever I want.....snow covered sports etc....so I could care less. Besides its just anal as far as I am concerned.....
What would be asinine is if someone put their chairs in my spot after I leave for work....and I find them when I come home.....and proceed to crush them into oblivion.

Someone took my spot today when I had to make a Wawa run. So after i dug a new spot, I went back and buried the other car into the spot they stole from me.
Hopefully it ices up real nice tonight and they can't get out.

If I would have seen the dhead that took my spot there would have been some violence.
I shoveled my neighbor's sidewalk twice in the past 2 days and I left tonight and he took not only my parking spot but his as well...just parked like a total jerk. I had to drive into a snowbank. I have to go to CVS to get shirt boxes and I'm waiting until he goes to work. I was cursing his name in my car.
I don't think we have "parking spots" but when we usually park there and I shovel YOUR sidewalk twice, that's almost a legal ownership of a spot!!!

It does crack me up, this lawn-chair parking authority stuff.
I'm neither for or against it.. but I suppose some people are more prone to being territorial than others when it comes to a parking spot.
This happens every year for sure, and it always will... In an odd way even though technically it's illegal, it's a show of rebellion.
It's illegal because of yet another stupid law created to annoy peoples freedoms, just like propoganda based on manipulating people to be politically correct.
But alas, some of us utilize our convienient backyard driveways, they belong to us only.
If you've got more than one vehicle, oh well... just use some consideration towards your neighbors, because you've got to live around them all year long.
It's not hard to do.

Until about 6 or 7 years ago, in my neighborhood, if you dug out and put a chair, it was respected. Then, people started disrespecting the chair, and now no one saves spaces -- it's dog-eat-dog.
