So this is my favorite time in Philly, when we get the best white stuff on the planet: snow.
Now I think I may be spoiled growing up in one of the best snowstorm cycles in Philly(1980-2000s), so its like second nature for me to turn on NBC 10, CBS 3, ABC 6 and Fox 29 at 11:20(10:45)PM and see if we are going to get a foot+ of snow from the next storm...and then watch the Weather Channel during the storm(1996).
And today just reminded me how much its fun to watch:
So close, yet so far away...
So this is going to be the thread to follow this winter, which I have a feeling will be a little snowier then the past 4 winters, and bitch or love it.
For tho who can't remember what Philly looks like with alot of snow I have pictures:
Winter 2009(Click thumbnails for larger pictures) Around 12 inches+
Winter 2006(Click thumbnails for larger pictures) Around 20 inches+

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EST TONIGHT.
THE RAIN THAT DEVELOPED ACROSS THE REGION THIS MORNING WILL CHANGE TO SNOW FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST THIS AFTERNOON. THE SNOW WILL THEN CONTINUE INTO THIS EVENING AND THEN END AROUND MIDNIGHT. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO ACCUMULATE 2 TO 4 INCHES FROM THE PHILADELPHIA METROPOLITAN AREA NORTHWARD. HOWEVER OVER AREAS CLOSER TO THE COAST SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF ONLY AN INCH OR TWO ARE ANTICIPATED.
BEING THAT THE GROUND REMAINS FAIRLY WARM... MOST OF THE SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL BE ON UNPAVED SURFACES. HOWEVER... THE SNOW WILL PROBABLY BE HEAVY ENOUGH TO ALSO ACCUMULATE ON ROADWAYS LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY THIS EVENING.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES... AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
Another interesting fact, it snow the past several years on December 5th.
Quote:
Dec. 5 has had significant snow four of the last seven years - 2007, 2005, 2003 and 2002
any parts of the greather Philadelphia area will be getting snow on Saturday, but the more significant weather problem may come later on.
Right now, the NWS has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of the Fox 29 area.
The NWS estimates 2 to 4 inches of snow north and west of the city of Philadelphia, with less snow cloer to Philadelphia. Fox 29's estimate is lower, in the 2 inch range.
There will a period later tonight when temperatures get below freezing and roads coukd get icy.
Chief Meteorologist John Bolaris says a quick-moving coastal storm will bring nuisance snow to much of the area.
It won't be a big snow, but it's a big story because it's our first snow, Bolaris said. We're missing some key ingredients for a major snowstorm. There's no Arctic high, our ocean temperatures are too high, and our surface temperatures remain warm.
BTW, this was the same storm that gave Houston snow this week...
I am just awestruck by the beauty of the Brandywine Valley under snow. Just phenomenal.
When I lived in Queen Village, snowfalls were my favorite times in the city. I'd love taking my dogs for a walk late night in Mario Lanza Park after a snow. The city looks so beautiful and the snow dampers the sounds and makes everything in the city seem surreal and peaceful and close.
They have (X-Box) 360 now...no more playstations...

Yeah, the 2006 President Day storm is one of my favorites because you could hear the wind blow and the cars slowly going by crushing the snow...
