Default Who are you going to bank with after TD Bank?

TD Bank seems to be in complete meltdown mode this week. And so I'm planning to store my hard earned money somewhere else, as soon as I figure out which bank to use next.

I want something that will sync with Microsoft Money, (or Quicken when MOney expires in Jan 2011) for transactions and bill pay, low or no fee ATM cards, and some branches in eastern PA for when I travel around.

    Ideas?

I have a second checking account with BoA, and a savings account with PFCU. Not very impressed with TD.

I just left Bank of America today. Amongst other things, they have repeatedly charged me extra convenience fees for using my debit card and BOA credit card (after telling me four times that the instances where it happened were mistakes and that I would be recredited). I had closed out my savings account over the phone three months ago, transferring the $200 I had in there into my checking. I found out this morning that there was a balance of negative $15 in there - $5 maintenance fee per month. I called up, got the runaround for half an hour, then just told them I was done with the bank.

Hopefully Citibank will be less of a hassle.

I switched from Wachovia to PNC to avoid the ATM fees. I'm sure they sync with MS Money.

I've heard nothing but bad things about BoA.

Were I planning on changing banks (I'm giving TD a second chance after this week) , I'd be looking for someone local, not someone headquartered on the other side of the continent.

I've heard terrible things about every bank. They're banks, one of those places on our errand lists we aren't exactly eager to get to. Other people's opinions on them usually shouldn't matter, yet we want to hear them anyway. Whatever bank you move to, will eventually screw you.

Me too, but I've been with BofA since 1997 (checking, savings, CC)...i've only been charged a fee once, but that was my dumb self overdrawing my account because i forgot to write a check down that i had written months ago.

I've used PNC for about 10 years and I have been reasonably happy with them. They reimburse you for ATM fees if you keep your average balance above 2k. They have branches pretty much everywhere around here.

It looks like TD Bank still does not have a handle on their problems. This morning web access says "TD Bank's Online Banking is temporarily unavailable."... "expect ... back up ... 10:00 AM."

Are these guys auditioning for incompetents of the year award, or what?

Their online access is down and their 800 phone line says 'unable to complete call at this time'.

I'm not overly worried. I know what's in there and was able to tap MAC for $100 yesterday before I even knew about this problem.

But I do need to make a larger purchase today on my debit card and I'm wondering if that will go through-even though it's not relying on a recent deposit.

For now I plan to stick with TD. For now.....

I'm going to stick it out--so far the issues haven't put us out much.

i bank with charles schwab. they don't have bank branches though. everything is online and i mail in deposits (when i have them, which is rare). i've been banking with online banks for over 10 years now (started with netbank, they were bought out by ING direct). Since schwab does not have branches or ATMs they reimburse ATM fees. they have no minimum interest bearing checking and there are no fees for anything. i'm a very happy customer.

I love that there are other people who "Tap MAC". I moved to Florida in 1999 and i remember the first time i said "hey, can we stop somewhere so i can tap MAC" and everyone looked at me like i had grown a second head.

    Thumbs up

Try AMFCU. Never had any problem with them in over 15 years. No fees. No BS. Free bill payer. Love them.

It's a real shame to see TD run our homegrown Commerce Bank into the ground.

The old Chairman/CEO of Commerce, Vernon Hill, was strongly against a merger with TD.

He was the one responsible for creating "America's Most Convenient Bank".

He knew quality and service would take a hit, and he was right.

Instead, the Board fired him (granted he was under investigation).

As arlee said, banks are banks.
They're all good, as long as they don't do something outrageous like what TD did this week.

I bank with PNC. Nothing special, but nothing horrible.
    Plus they're HQed in PA.

I have American Heritage Federal Credit Union ... probably not super compatible with multitudes of tech but you could call and ask. Not a lot of branches and Sat hour ones are outside the city, but they give free access to like 10 ATM transactions a month and other credit union machines don't charge you ... pretty good and I think that at this point you can be a member if you live or work in Philly.
