Nope. As much as I LOVE the mural arts program, this might be too iconic to copy. I mean its Philadelphia's Last Supper. Where is this painting by the way? I've seen it on a million book covers even before I lived here. I'd love to see the real thing.

Of course, Penn & Co. are wearing clothing that would have killed them in a Philadelphia June. Not to mention that the clothes are about mid-18th century, not late-17th.

The mural arts program is more about empowerment and development than reproduction. Come to think of it, has any mural created by this group been a reproduction of something already existing? I'm going to say no, but I don't know.

Its not a very good painting anyway.

LOL you do know your art. And I'll agree with you on most of this. I didn't mean it was too good for the MAP. I don't think they've ever reproduced anything because they're more about showcasing artists than showing off. They do a great job at that, and reproducing anything would jump the shark. I do think its a good painting, technically. It's grossly inaccurate and arguably insensitive, but it tells a storu from a historic perspective and that's why I think its important.

Unless you wanted to do a pared-down version, it would probably look like **** on a brick wall, particularly on a sunny day.

Edward Hicks, the American Rousseau, did a beautiful, DIY homage to Benjamin West in 1847. It would be easier to reproduce on a huge scale:

    Also, no more murals please.

Oooh, I like that one better!

What's wrong with more murals? They make surface lots look a little less Detroity.

But then the "community" gets attached to the mural and fights a new development by a new owner... Wash, rinse, repeat, ad nauseum.

Jeez Louise. Just like a certain someone and his beloved community garden. This is why we can't have nice things, even when they're free and obviously just placeholders.

Well, I guess DaVinci's Last Supper is not a very good piece of art either. After all, I'm sure it's not accurate in that all of the disciples and Christ did not sit on one side of the table in reality.

It's extremely accurate, as you can see in the excellent Mel Brooks documentary.
