This could be a good thread if people illustrated their points with specific examples. Also if anyone has more obscure names of families who did damage behind the scenes.

And what about the crime families?

for effectively eliminating any political opposition that the ruling party has had in this city for half a century. I don't think it's exaggerating to say that the blame for every failure, every mediocrity, every example of the mind-boggling dysfunction in this city that has resulted from a bloated, inept, complacent, anti-democratic, Democratic machine lies ultimately on the Meehans' doorstep. (Is that specific enough?)

Indeed! I wasn't trying to be a dick; I just know that people like you can articulate these things better than I.

Did you (anyone) happen upon the Philly.com piece today about the memorial benches on the boardwalk in OCNJ, and the several paragraphs devoted to the Meehan family bench?

I know. I WAS trying to be a dick.

Here's the link: Jersey Shore benches keep loved ones close. I wish they would all retire to Ocean City, the most boring place on the Atlantic Ocean, and never set foot in this city again.

Take it easy on OCNJ, buster! That's America's Greatest Family Resort you're talking about!
