This could be a good thread if people illustrated their points with specific examples. Also if anyone has more obscure names of families who did damage behind the scenes.

I vote for the Meehans as well,
for effectively eliminating any political opposition that the ruling party has had in this city for half a century. I don't think it's exaggerating to say that the blame for every failure, every mediocrity, every example of the mind-boggling dysfunction in this city that has resulted from a bloated, inept, complacent, anti-democratic, Democratic machine lies ultimately on the Meehans' doorstep. (Is that specific enough?)

Did you (anyone) happen upon the Philly.com piece today about the memorial benches on the boardwalk in OCNJ, and the several paragraphs devoted to the Meehan family bench?
