If you're going to call me something, please, for the love of all that's good and holy, spell it correctly! It's LOSER. Looser is what happens when your clothing is too large. But nice try.
What, exactly, is the problem with Hite? Or are you merely showing your racism here? Did you say the same thing when Paul Vallas came to Philadelphia?
I am not the Jackass Whisperer.
OMG here it is.. the "Racism" attacks. ( My family is Bi-racial, so give up the Race-baiting crap, you witch.)
For an answer to the gentleman above, I was led to some interesting reading when googling "Reform Sasscer" It has to do with Prince George Public Schools, where Dr. Hite was working. It's very interesting reading...
That blog is an anonymous writer and full of so many disparate allegations of varying degrees (rife with spelling and grammar mistakes) that it is hard to take seriously. We need to see something besides those rantings to take any criticism seriously.
Superintendent or schools chief or whatever they call it these days is a position where it is impossible to please everyone. Any candidate who doesn't have some interest group pissed off at him is doing a bad job, or has no experience.
Everybody I know who checked out both candidates preferred Hite. At the very least his demeanor and people skills seem far better than those of Queen Arlene.
Let's hope he can get things in line for all of our sakes.
He'll have a honeymoon for 12-18 months, then the long knives will come out. As time goes on, more and more knives will come out and his supporters will melt away. Eventually the ones with the knives will overwhelm those who protect him, and he'll go the way of a very long list of people before him. I just hope that during that period he devolves enough power to the principals and other responsible stakeholders that when he leaves there won't be much disruption.
I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it here. Hite should be aware that the Philly education community on the whole does not mess around*. Our no confidence pushes don't have anonymous groups behind them - we come correct.
*Except for the couple crazies that come and scream at meetings. In their case, that is all they do.
He's trying to implement the policy that BCG proposed which is unpopular to many so I doubt there'll be much of a honeymoon from teacher groups, student groups, or parent activists, or the churches. He will get support from the mayor and much of council. I think most of us realize we may be able to fix the financial footing of the district but we're not going to drastically improve performance even in the medium term.
Boston Consulting group. Their plan for Philly is to split the district up into "Achievement Networks" of schools to by managed either outside by a non-profit, by the district or a hybrid of the two. That the BCG plan is popular with Universal etc. should give people pause. When NYC implemented a similar system they EXPANDED their central office staff to oversee the Achievement Networks and ensure accountability. Here in Philly BCG wants us to do the same but drastically decrease the central office staff that would be providing oversight. How could that possibly go wrong in Philadelphia?
