most overrated thing in philly?

I think of stuff like the Liberty Bell and the disparity gets greater, because of how ****ty it is. It's rated at 100, but it's like a -25 in the arbitrary rating system I just made up. You have to wait in line and then you look at it and then it's a bell. There is nothing else to do once you're there except look at how much of a bell it is. What was it's connection to the famous revolution? Vague and tenuous, serving mostly bell-related duties until it was hidden so as not to be recast into musket balls. whoopie.

Not that long ago it was fashionable for one to say "meet me at the liberty bell" on Market Street. It was pretty cool to stand almost next to the thing (glass excluded) at night when no one else was around. Sure its historicall value is pretty tenuous, but it seemed alive with its cast memories when it was just me and the belle. Like I say, CC's population spurt (and tourist spurt) are over rated.

The most overrated thing is Philadelphia is the Robert Indiana LOVE sculpture. There are like 30 of them all over the world, including other big cities like NYC, Montreal, and Hong Kong. The one in JFK Plaza is not the original, that's in Indianapolis. The fact that it's been adopted as some symbol of the city is frankly embarrassing.

Food wise, La Colombe for sure. Nice business, mediocre coffee. Oh yeah Pub & Kitchen sucks too.

I LOVE reading terminal but you have to go at an off peak time. But I HATE the new dining area. It now reminds me of the cafeteria from an old Mad Magazine.

The most overrated thing for me is cheesesteaks. went to genos had many, it's a soft wonderbread roll, bad meat to begin with and horrible cheeze wiz. its better with provalone. but i gave up eating squishy bread when i left elementary school. I want to love them . If it was great bread, and ingredients I would.

There are so many better cheesesteaks in the City than Genos and Pats. My favorite non-traditional chessesteak is at The Abbaye.

I can't beleive no one has said it yet, but perhaps that because if your a resident of Philly you would never even consider doing it.

The whole duck boat thing. I mean, of all the tourist traps in Philly, that has to be the worst. Although I can imagine an overweight mid western family that doesn't care to walk anywhere and who's next stop is the hard rock cafe, telling all their friends about the crazy SUV that went in the water too!

My sister and niece (midwest, but skinny) loved the duckboat when they visited.

They should re-name it "Newest of Philly" or "Who's most connected to the editors of Philly" since the majority of what makes it is usually a year or so old.

If I had to add something to this....most overrated thing:

Chickie and Pete's Crabfries. Of course I hope I don't get in trouble for not adding the circled "c" next to it for copyright infringement.

Its Old Bay, melted american cheese and cheap frozen fries for f**ks sake!! Stop getting in mile long lines at Citizens Bank Park for it.

That said...I'll disagree with cheesesteak...only because outside of Philly, you'd be amazed how no one can seem to get it right.

I gotta say, I agree, at least a little. Its not horrible, its just not that great compared with Old City or Stumptown as far as a custom roaster available in the area goes. As a specific cafe location in Rittenhouse Square, its perfectly nice.

Totally agree with that. If you threw Tony Luke's in there though, we'd have problems. I'm a big fan of Tony Luke's.

I think a lot of people ITT don't understand what the term overrated means when they say the gallery.

I'm not certain that you can say, as a blanket statement, that cheesesteaks are overrated and I'm surprised no one has mentioned Pat's and Geno's by name yet.
